Many years ago I had a colleague who imported a 365GTB Ferrari as a wreck, had it rebuilt and I had the pleasure of getting it to run. It is an inline 12 cylinder engine with the gearbox integral with the diff and a solid 1" bar for the driveshaft.
When we finally got it running it did 90 mph in first gear!
