Whats the bet these are not legal on a footpath?

2sheddies, May 26, 8:38pm
Considering they've also ridden ordinary motorcycles on footpaths for years, I'm guessing they must have a special exemption of some kind? Besides, probably no more dangerous than some of those hard core seniors on their souped up mobility scooters looking to mow us down at every opportunity ! :-P

tintop, May 26, 8:43pm
They are allowable as long as the operators go through a police approved course.

Same for the old postie bikes, the litter collectors on their wee Hondas etc.

tintop, May 26, 8:44pm
lol - Planning mods to mine now!

trogedon, May 26, 8:55pm
Their bicycles wouldn't be legal on the footpath either - without a Postie on them. The cynic in me thinks that the greater capacity of these = the Postie's have to cover more ground/deliver more in the same work hours.

poppajn, May 27, 5:29am
They'll last for years considering we are only going to get mail 3 day's a week.

3 wheeler over a curb. I can see a few of these going r's up

It takes longer to get a parcel sent within NZ via NZ Post, than it does to get stuff sent here from CHINA.

NZ Post staff BLATANTLY slit open Xmas card envelopes looking for cash, and management just throw up their hands "what can we do, it's all too hard, you can't expect us to be responsible for the actions of our own employees!"

I KNOW! NEW ECO-FRIENDLY POSTIE BIKES ARE WHAT WE NEED TO DO!

The sooner this hapless, hopeless, failed, socialist, yesterday's organisation closes down for good, the better.

richardmayes, May 27, 9:30am
Who in their right mind is going to complain that their postie delivered the mail?

bigfatmat1, May 27, 10:54am
I know a guy that complained the post is leaving a bike 20m away to walk up a steep drive to their mailbox. Some people aye! To much time on their hands

tintop, May 27, 1:17pm
To be replaced by a hapless, hopeless, failed, quasi capitalist organisation that will capitalise the profits and socialise the losses ?

msigg, May 27, 3:22pm
yes some need to get a life, the old postage system will be finished sooner than later, sad days, best leave them alone.

I am sure checks were made to make sure the new 'bikes' are allowed to be driven on footpaths.

tintop, May 27, 5:56pm
Lol - Where is the afterburner ?

2sheddies, May 27, 6:40pm
I think it's cleverly disguised in the rear batwing bodywork, somewhere near the retrofitted flux capacitor swiped from the neighbours Delorean scooter!

redhead96, May 27, 7:19pm
They trialled similar types of bikes here in the Hutt last year.
One postie I spoke to wasn't happy due to the way the footpaths were.
Also if the go over the grass they make a bigger mess to it if it is soft.
What for all the moaning from them about bins being in the wrong places.

supernova2, May 27, 8:24pm
Probably the same checks that the plod made before buying the Skedgways for Taupo only to then find they could not use them on the road. Wonder what they ever did with them?

mojo49, May 28, 11:54am
No sign of a safety belt. Too inconvenient I suppose. Three wheeler with narrow rear wheel base, with the load quite high behind the rider. Looks like a modern day Robin Reliant to me. Wonder if they will have to wear crash helmets? They will need them - bumping over kerbs, broken footpaths, trying to outrun unchained dogs, should result in plenty of crashes. They could become the new death traps to replace 3 wheel farm bikes. Even relatively narrow dual front wheels would be a lot safer.

thewomble1, May 28, 11:42pm
Glad they could not use on the road. Cycles are bad enough.

I saw a Honda Gold wing trike on the motorway yesterday. 2 Massive pannier bags on the side and en even bigger storage box on top. That would do the job nicely. ?
