Can someone please tell me just why a 4 WD ute costs so much more than a 2 WD option?

More mechanical and electric stuff to make 4WD is my guess, oh and different suspension, maybe some other things as well (o:

add driveshafts, diffs (sometimes stronger diffs) cv's axles etc, sometimes chassi and body parts.
some have different engines, usually the 4wd gets the bigger engine.

More useful and popular, as well as what was said above , extra components.

I have never understood this in most cars used for "normal" driving.

When it comes to second hand vehicles its simply a matter of supply and demand. There is a lot more demand than sellers can supply.
It really is that simple.

With "normal" vehicles theres little or no $$$ advantage a vehicle being 2 or 4 wheel drive.
The advantage of awd will be odvious to anyone driving in snowy regions now
With utes and "trucks" different story.

Because it's a 4wd. it's pretty simple really.

It's got a totally extra function that a 2wd doesn't have
