Looking on Trade me at the different Dash Cams and trying to workout which one would be better.
It will be used in only the one car but must be able to read the number plates

why would you bother, you are asking for problems IF you was to get one and REPORT people you had better hope that they don't find you.

I wouldn't use one, it makes you a target for those who want to get past you.

I had a case the other month, where there was a new 4x4 ute going UNDER the speed limit, I went close to pull out and pass & the went 40 PLUS Km's over the limit and sat in the middle of the passing lane so I couldn't get past and they had a passenger in the back of the double cab, get my plate to call the cops.

They was in a company car, and they could of been done. . Yet I should of complained about their driving, I just wanted to get past, slower than the limit upsets me and then they went above with a teenager in the back.

Camera's as asking for problems if you ask me, look at your own driving 1st and for most.

Rant over!

I have just had to pay for repairs to my van because a couple of good sized rocks came off the back of a truck, when I spoke to the owner/driver he said "take him to court and try and prove it" so I'm not going through this again.

Love bug, not sure what you're on but ya really need to cut back on it

mrfxit, Apr 19, 3:01pm
LOL Andrew, time to cut down on the meds there buddy.

Either that or hand them over to a more deserving lunatic ;-)

mrfxit, Apr 19, 3:02pm
Could have done with a dash cam a few times ion recent years.

slarty45, Apr 19, 3:04pm
if you said to him you have a dashcam, he would not have said "take him to court and try and prove it"
a handy device for insurance claims, cuts out the BS

Left side of page.
Use the search function & set it for 1 year.

Happy reading

I have BlackVue DR600GW HD
In ideal conditions number plates can be read when SD card file is viewed on PC with large screen.
Non ideal conditions are, sun reflecting top of dash on inside of screen, driving into sun makes number plates coming toward you near impossible to read, same deal at night.
Not perfect but they are improving & better than nothing.

Is it a good idea to get two, one in the front and back?
Maybe even four but we'll stick with the two question for now.

yes. showing what the behavior was of a driver before the incident can help a lot.
also handy for when your hit from behind (i think thats still the most common accident) and the driver does a runner. front cams don't always get plate pics of cars going past.
you often can get away with a cheaper rear camera as idiots typically tailgate so distances are closer and easy to get good pics. but still stick to HD. old vga cameras are a waste of time.
also handy for getting plates of people with trailers or obscured rear plates.
