Tesla S P90D model announced with "Ludicrous Mode" 0-100 km/h 2.8 seconds. Owners of the slow old P85D who are finding that "Insane Mode" is a bit tame can get their car upgraded to P90D spec for USD$8k.
There will be flames out of the battery compartment.

Tesla will be up against an impenetrable barrier soon. Speed of electricity is only 186,000 Miles per second.

Match that up with photodectection of the green light and nothing will ever beat it on the street.
One day people are going to look back at petrol powered cars and ask "Why?"

And they'll find that it was because mobile electricity sources of the time sucked.

Because the energy density of petrol is about a thousand times greater than the best storage batteries around.

Not 1000, but perhaps 50 times. But if that's all there was to it, then it would be trivial to make a petrol car with a petrol tank that you'd only need to fill up once a year.

Pretty sure the P85 is already doing that. They get a huge jump off any other vehicle in the first 0.5sec or less.
And then one day they will see and hear a vintage one going past and the old light bulb will turn on and they will say "now I understand".

Because you can refill the tank from empty in two minutes.

Yes - two minutes to fill, but more than 1/2 day of workday drudgery to pay the bill for the average punter.
