Regarding 1998 to 2002 model mitzi diesel motors, which are the better ones and which do you avoid? TIA.

As a mechanic we have a saying when it comes to mitsi diesels " Its going to blow " . Avoid them all !

The 3.2 in the pajero Is a good engine

I always thought the 3.2 was the worst, why did Mitsi drop it?, I seem to recall Mitsi agents struggled to get them to last thru the warranty period, once they were out of warranty they didnt want to know about them.

Are we thinking of the same engine? ? They are still using the 3.2 today in the new pajeros some 17 years on

The 3.2 got dropped in the Tritons, maybe for a reason. I heard Mitsi had no end of trouble with the 3.2 in the Pajero and Tritons.

probably "heard" it here.

wind.turbine, Oct 21, 10:29am
if their still using them in the pajero then why have they not had it as an option for the new Triton?
I have seen a few 05-07 3.2L Tritons that are up in the mid 400,000km and still running fine!

cant say the same about the 2.5L, who knows about this new 2.4L

It's the first i have heard of it. I always was led to think the 3.2 motors in the pajero at least were fantastic machines.- hence why they are still using them

I always thought simply the 2.5 not the best, 2.8 good engine, 3.2 even better.

my 1991 2.5 pajero, 4D56 did 350,000 kms never blew up, never missed a beat, its called servicing

The 2.8 and 3.2 are regarded as the more reliable diesels from Mitsubishi, second only to the 4DR5 2.7 found in Canters and other commercial vehicles. The 2.3 and 2.5 in their early guises were not the best, in 1991 they redesigned the 2.5 and dropped the 2.3. Not sure why the 3.2 was dropped in the Triton, as above it's still in use in the Pajero (with no major issues I've "heard" of). I assume the 2.5 replaced the 3.2 because it was able to provide similar power figures while meeting emissions standards the 3.2 couldn't.
