Light ticking sound on startup & idle with a Fiat Stilo 1.8? Cambelt has been done recently. Is it the variator and is this an expensive fix?

bigmacnfries, Aug 13, 5:28pm
No, a Euro car with a problem, it's not possible. I thought only Japanese cars had problems.

geedubu, Aug 13, 5:30pm
Jazz will save me, and the reputation of European cars.

grangies, Aug 13, 5:35pm
You haven't got the radio speakers turned up enough.

bigmacnfries, Aug 13, 5:38pm
Praise the lord!

geedubu, Aug 13, 6:25pm
2 trolls and no Jazz. I'll sell it and buy a Mitsubishi.

tamarillo, Aug 13, 7:03pm
Hang on in there, these idiots have been pissing jazz off lately so he might not be checking often.

brapbrap8, Aug 13, 8:00pm
Could be a belt tensioner somewhere that is on its way out, some careful listening with the bonnet up might give you more clues about the general area the noise is coming from.

Did they change the oil and filter? May be wrong oil or filter.

no one has given him a hard time he just cant take what he gives, he isnt happy with me and all i have done is point out what a disaster the toerag we had at work was, everybody is entitled to their opinion, he certainly knows his stuff no denying that but he needs to stop going into incredible hulk mode when someone disagrees with him, perhaps he hasnt been on because he is busy writing his book

Exhaust manifold leak? ( (loose nuts/bolts) usually a small leak is enough for a ticking sound. Drive belt( small nick in belt) hitting a cover? Loose high tension lead?

poppy62, Aug 14, 10:46am
Your expertise is required for the Mazda. Honda and Holden problem queries. Don't let the door smack you on the bum on your way out from here.

geedubu, Aug 14, 12:42pm
Now diagnosed by garage: slightly loose manifold cover. Bolts tightened all fixed.

tamarillo, Aug 14, 2:26pm
Well done poppy!

That's jazz on the skids then. good spotting poppy62 Back in the olden days half a dozen of us would have probably given that as an option. Haven't had that happen to me since my last truly British car.
