I have an MX5 as a weekend car, have had it for 10 years now and I still love to get it out on the open road where it excels. It handles like its on rails and can put up some fairly good point to point times.
It is not overly powerful (170kph stops it) but the speed limit is 100kph anyways.
It suits me and Mrs Stevo down to the ground as I dont really care a rats ar5e what other people think.
The S2000 is a very quick car that loves to rev but is not much fun at all in stop start traffic.
The Z3 is powerful enough but not a great handler on the open road, not bad but just to heavy.
Depends what you want out of a car, fun or a posing opportunity.

Porsche Boxster?

pericles1, Feb 4, 5:48pm
You're not a hairdresser, you're a turd burgler.

S2000 is a fantastic car. Gearbox is the best around. No idea about the other (have heard they are lame from an Audi S3 driver). I think the S3 is a bit soft and unengaging myself.

Am interested as to why you say this Steve?

Another vote for a Seven replica.
Have plans for an alloy chassis, carbon paneled one that will swallow all the running gear from a 307kw HSV Commodore. Engine, 6 speed, diff, brakes all go in. Scored them for an Australian crowd who made them a few years ago.
As soon as my garage is free and the house is finished I'm starting to build.

WOW! Sounds like an absolute weapon, what a toy for the track.

stevo2, Feb 4, 6:41pm
Found it a mission to drive in stop/start traffic, no torque whatsoever low down and was inclined to stall unless given a few revs.
Could be a ball of fun when the revved out though.

Aim is to get it road registered but at 600kg and bare minimum of 307kw it could be a bit firey for road use. The Aus one I tried was just a rocketship. Pluses good handling (alloy V8 keeps the nose weight down a bit especially with battery, dry sump tank etc in the rear to distribute weight), good brakes (designed to stop a 1600kg Holden), fantastic power to weight ratio, negatives, getting power to the ground!

nice !

This coming from a Greek!

VAT isn't claimable on cars that haven't spent their lives registered to a business (or a new car). which kinda blows the budget.

£10,500 Which is about $21k.

Allow $5k for shipping, MAF, insurance, customs etc. That's 26k. Then pay 15% GST at the border, that's $29,900, then allow an extra $500 for compliance and ORC and you're up over 30k.

Having imported a few cars from the UK, these costs are pretty typical.

I was thinking Boxster too - even though the gos' is that it says you're a pretentious git who can't afford a 9xx.

Just looked them up - they start at about $14,000 which is only a couple of G's more than when I bought my MX-5 about six years ago. That seems pretty do-able for a car like that.

Hmmm. never been too keen on porsche, no idea why, nothing specific. Of the 'cheap' ones I could go a manual 928, but that's about it I think, and they're getting pretty old (for the money). I don't know why, but the boxter makes me cringe. Think it's because of a particular person I knew who had one.

Hey JMMA can you fit me in for medium trim sometime. Starting to look like the wild man of Borneo at the mo. Cheers mate!
