I might agree with that, although I also might see your mosquito and raise you an Avro Vulcan in 'Howl' mode. ?

At idle: any large aircraft piston engine, even our Piper Seneca sounds boss at idle.
Full tit: Recently I listened to a lexas LFA and my god that sounded amazing. Maybe not the best around but the best ive heard.

Bouncing off the trees as it screams it's way slideways toward you through the morning mist, then the same from behind as it weaves way into the distance. Ahhh, I miss those Rallys of the late '70s early '80s when they were all rear wheel drive only.

pretty much any radial piston aero engine, & also how about a K class loco( or a J ) starting from scratch & also in " full cry " . fantastic !

1) BRM V16 supercharged 1500cc - once heard, never forgotten 2) Ferrari V12 3 litre - from the 1960s/70's 3) ERA 2 litre supercharged straight 6 - it may be 80 years old but it still takes some beating 4) The Rover V8 in my project car when first fired up was an emotional sound moment! 5) You may laugh, but an MGB has a nice sound for a fairly basic engine.

There's a Czech jet that flies in and out of Nelson airport quite regularly that sounds pretty damn cool. and its pretty bloody quick for an 1980's aircraft.

Oh so its not just car motors, the Rolls Royce Dart. There are numerous neat components to its sound that are great and happy memory evoking.

Wings over Wairarapa a couple of years ago - 1 Mosquito, 2 Spitfires, 1 Mustang - all flying together.
The Bristol Centaurus n the Hawker Sea Fury was pretty good at Mangere about 25 years ago was pretty good too.

:) I saw the Vulcan at the Rongatai opening . One broken leg and trailing fuel. I have a piece of dural from it somewhere, scored by a school mate on an Air Cadet trip to Ohakea.

Yes all of those, add a Napier Deltic, and a fully laden DC6 spray tanker on its take off run at Whenuapai ( and just clearng the fence) on ts way to spray the painted apple moth - n the quiet of the morning just before sunrise.
And while I think of it - the 3 remaining running engines on a TEAL DC6 after turning around and heading back to Nandi. In fact I think everyone was listening carefully on that part of the flight.
