Tom Tom unit dead?

My unit seems to have died. I can't see any access point for a battery replacement. 800 series 'Top Gear' edition. Maybe it has come out in sympathy for JC's exit.

I have tried a couple of different cables but no luck.

Does anyone know if these are repairable or the inbuilt battery is replaceable? I wish now I'd bought a new one when in the UK as they were a good price last month. I think this one is only about two or maybe three years old, so not impressed.

Batteries can be replaced, there's a lot for sale on eBay.

Does yours look like it would come apart in this manner?

That is a brilliant link. Thanks so much. I now need to find out what battery is actually fitted - as usual, Tom Tom don't put a type number in their paperwork.

Have you tried holding the power button down for at least 20 seconds?

Wow! You are a star! Couldn't get the front plate off so tried the 20 second hold. Now fired up OK. Excellent.

You're welcome, doing that reboots them. Glad to help

This is called a cold start, you should hear a chime or set of beeps, this confirms the memory cache has been reset. You will find you have to do this cold start after approx twenty address inputs. Just annoying when you are sitting waiting for it to reload so you can get your directions.???

I never normally use it in NZ but it is very useful in the UK, just using a Post Code input. I only wanted to use it here to check the calibration of my self installed electronic speedo on the project car, so again, thanks.
