Who's going away this Xmas?

stevo2, Dec 27, 6:14am
Just wondering how many of the regulars here head away for the Xmas/New Year break?
We are heading away TODAY for our family bach at Whiritoa Beach for about 2 to 3 weeks.
During that time we will be doing a lot of swimming, Bush walks, cycling (the Hauraki Rail Trail etc), probably do a few day drives like Whangamata, Hot Water Beach, Whitianga, Coromandel, Thames and back to the bach. I love driving so we will be doing quite a few day trips. We often to the full Coromandel loop in a day
I also need to re-roof the old bach so will be looking forward to a couple of clear/windless days.
The beer fridge will be running full time and the old BBQ will certainly get a good workout.
I would like to wish everybody safe travels over their break and hope you all have a great New Year.
Cheers Stevo

Heading down the line in the New Year to take my daughter back to Hamilton. Decided she wanted to come home for Christmas and now regretting the decision due to her father's attitude.

Good spot Whiritoa. Was there on Easter weekend earlier in the year.

I'm headed into the Marlborough Sounds for a couple of days then back to work Monday.

Headed to the Waikato to stay with family over Xmas, heading home tomorrow to do some work on my own house until I go back to work. just need to find a sparkie.

Take care out there everybody, done quite a few km in a large Transit van and there's some absolute idiot drivers out there today.

I wonder how many do this?

I am going away so I always do this:
Check oil and water
Top up window wash (and carry spare)
Clean all windows
Make sure I have my sunglasses
Clean car and remove any old bottles or rubbish
Check Tyres and pressure
General look around car for safety

I don't want to have to do anything and want nothing rattling around once I leave, anything else?

joanie04, Dec 27, 5:47pm
I basically do all of that. But then again I religiously check water, oil and fluid levels weekly. Was drilled into by my dad a retired mechanic. Usually if I am going anywhere it is from north of Kaitaia to Paeroa and then Hamilton. Next week will be the fourth trip since mid-late September.

You got most of it covered except
"we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes," (o:

I like to live life dangerously and don't carry a spare. It raises the boot floor in the Corolla and doesn't look aesthetically pleasing.

joanie04, Dec 27, 7:15pm
I have one of those bloody space saver ones so the floor is aesthetically pleasing lol.

Got a new Fiesta and it has no spare at all. Just a can of glue and a pump. Not really sure about that.

house sitter coming 30th, then away for a month, will be blocking traffic with my caravan. (not,) usually keep to 100 + Simpsons Beach for New year, Taupo 3 days, then follow the road south.
