Silicone Removal

I want to remove old silicone from my caravan roof. Any ideas people on the best way to remove it. Used as sealant over seams and needs to be replaced as it has aged.

Silicone remover works well. Hardware stores stock it.

Silicone remover in my opinion is a waste of money, had same prob,so used a razor blade scraper, replaced silicon (paintable) and repainted the roof-looks good and no leaks

agree, razor blade and patience.

I had no problems with it, but only used it to clean up the remaining residue after scraping/cutting away the bulk. I guess with all the different formulations of sealants, it is hit and miss unless you know which exactly which product you are removing. I removed selleys roof and gutter silicone with selleys silicone remover.

After razor blade then wipe it with turps and it will soften and wipe clean.I usually just use petrol where it doesn't matter.

Yip razor blade it , even a light grade scotchbrite with meths gets the last of the residue off too :)

The trouble with silicone remover is unless you can get every last bit cleaned up afterwards it resists the new sealant. It tends to make a sticky mess which makes the clean up very difficult.
As above no substitute for patience, sharp blade and I prefer to wipe down with meths or prepsol rather than turps. As mentioned petrol works well too.

prepsol

Made a scraper out of a piece or Perspex, finish with prepsol.
