Seems to be the real deal. He actually has a 2 of these . So . is it worth listing and where would you put start/ reserve or look for another way to move it. He's only selling one - hard enough to pry his fingers off that one .
I'm not too keen on posting overseas unless necessary- bad enough when items go missing in NZ. freight costs could get a tad expensive. however- it is what it is.
You aren't wrong there, I've got an old Gargoyle Mobiloil enamel/porcelain hanging on my wall and was very suprised to see what similar ones are going for on there.

For non believers this is what a good one sells for:
Cant be genuine - the spelling is wrong - it says 'TEXACO'
( rummages in back shed for 'Big Tree' and 'Plume' signs .

How would you know if it was original, plenty of copy cats out there. You may need documentation for the real deal.

That's not on all the signs, and have made enough inquiries to believe it is genuine and seen a number of other identical genuine signs . Any copies are more likely to be made for the American markets using American terminology and versions of the sign. not Australasian version which i believe this to be.

Well the true test is to sell it and see what you get for it. The other one dosn't look right to me either, I don't think the stars went through the outer circle. let us know what you get for it. You don't want to know my guess.

you had me worried there for a minute The star your looking at is the Caltex star from the Caltex logo that was painted over the enamel original .If you look carefully enough you can see the Caltex wording as well still. The other side of this sign has come up as good as the sold one. as i said the Caltex logos protected the original "porcelain" sign the owner left this because his wife liked "the look" and to help prove authenticity. .
