The buggers won't flash. Just stay on solid.
Has anyone dealt with this? A quick search says you can get a flasher unit to suit. What sort of watts/amps do I need to look for and where to buy? 1992 Kwaka. Cheers men.

Maybe if you put a resistor in the circuit it will make the flasher unit flash, they wont be drawing enough to make it work, same as in my ute, if its one of the trailers with normal bulbs the trailer indicator light will light up on the dash, if its a trailer with LED's it wont light up.

Yes you can get a inline diode flasher unit for each one

daryl14, Mar 30, 5:38pm
Funny you mention trailers Mr cat. I had an LED kitted trailer for a short while and don't recall any probs there. Probably some circuitry magic pre- installed there. Yes some forums do mention a resistor and some mention a different wattage flasher unit. I guess I am just looking for an easy fix to get back on the road smartish.

daryl14, Mar 30, 5:41pm
yes I did see that. But has anyone put in a super cheap flasher for real and had good results?

kazbanz, Mar 30, 6:17pm
matey it really aint rocket science just takes a bit of thinking out.
To avoid confusion lets say that you are only getting one side to work.
each original bulb would be 23 amps. --assuming everything WAS working perfectly BEFORE you fitted the LED lights.
So your LED lights need to be a total of 46 amps. Most likely you have something like 20 amps total with LED's. So you need to fit a resister to get the indicators up to the 46 amps.-this usually goes inline with the front indicator.
Something to watch for --normal bulbs don't care to much about polarity.so screw up the +n and - wire and the indicator will still work.
LED bulbs wok only one way.

No its not rocket science but formulas don't work to well if you mix up amps and watts! Also the resistor is not wired in line that will decrease voltage you want to connect resistor to ground to increase load on the circuit. Me personally I would just change the flasher unit

saxman99, Mar 30, 6:25pm
I think perhaps you mean watts rather than amps?

nzjay, Mar 30, 6:30pm
I'd just fit the proper LED flasher.

kazbanz, Mar 30, 6:31pm
Youre right--whydai type amps when I meant watts.

motorboy2011, Mar 30, 6:40pm
I have another available, can list if you wish. This is what you need if your flasher relay is a 2 pin version.

daryl14, Mar 30, 6:41pm
mixing beer and the cricket perchance?

daryl14, Mar 30, 6:44pm
if it's as simple as that and I can buy at supercheap/bike shop/auto electrician, then I can get right on that tomorrow.

tony9, Mar 30, 7:16pm
Yes, but not only that, the resister would need to dissipate about 40 watts. That will be a big hot one. And rather remove the low power advantage of LEDs.

kazbanz, Mar 30, 7:21pm
if it was a tailing you are bang on--but for indicators not such an issue-they are off half the time they are flashing and even then for such a comparatively short time its not an issue.
-keep in mind a lot of Amarket kits come with the resister.

kazbanz, Mar 30, 7:24pm
hey sorry daryl--wasn't foccussed-mat is right Im wrong.

xs1100, Mar 30, 7:25pm
what sort of ute because if its a ranger they have a real problem with led and have heard of computers blowing

clark20, Mar 30, 7:47pm
Looking at all the LED indicators for bikes on here, none of them seem to be compliant

rlr29, Mar 30, 7:57pm
Why do people even bother with LED in cars? How often do lamps blow? How much do they cost? How hard are they to replace? They aren't and there's no point.

sr2, Mar 30, 10:33pm
Yup! +1.
Didn't anyone out there pass 5th form Physics?

kazbanz, Mar 31, 9:01am
ahh shuddup--I wasn't focussing when I typed my post.
Mixed up amps and watts parallel with inline-sheesh.
I knew what (watt) I meant to say it just came out wrong.
Stupid thing is Ive fitted heaps of those Led setups to guys bikes

daryl14, Mar 31, 2:18pm
Purchased a Narva LED flasher unit today at my local auto electrician and now indicators work perfectly. Thanks all.

mrcat1, Mar 31, 7:10pm
Its some real horsepower, not one of those underpowered sluggish fords, Nissan STX 550, all it does is with normal bulbs in trailer the trailer indicator emblem flashes with the indicator light when I use the indicators, if I have plugged in a trailer with LEDS the trailer emblem doesn't flash but the indicator light does, I hope that makes sense. I think its designed to warn you that the trailer indicator bulb is either blown or not working.
