Cruise control

Yes the CC lamp goes out and CC must be reset. I have been trialing it around city streets at 50kmh where the same thing happens if the hill is more than about 4-5% gradient. Light goes out and car feels like its freewheeling. in all probability has just changed up to 6th gear where it was in 4th when cruising at 50kmh?

CC does not re engage.

In just trying to get my head around this--are you "resting' your foot on the brake pedal?
IMO skin is onto it--sensitivity of the switch is set too fine.

The cruise control is switching off because your speed is to high! Your cruise control will not brake for you! This is how it works. You do not have a problem.

pestri, Jun 5, 6:22pm
No, foot no where near brake. I've tested the operation too many times to be uncertain of events

pestri, Jun 5, 6:23pm
I ask because it is NOT how it worked in my previous vehicles.

I know of a Kia which has a similar (sort of) problem. The CC works 95% of the time but every so often just disengages but it is still turned on. It appears to be a combination of steering wheel position and a bump in the road. Owner just lives with it - hits resume and all comes right.

However I have never driven a car with a CC that turns itself off completely whilst going down hills. Often the speed creeps up a bit so driver has to apply the brakes which disengages the CC but resume brings it back into play.

Its hard to determine from OP's posts if the CC is disengaging or turning completely off. However I've never seen one that disengages by itself because the car has exceeded the set speed. If the speed exceeds the set CC speed it simply does nothing until the car slows to less than set speed then the CC takes over and brings the car back up to the set speed.

Whats the Owners Manual say about setting the CC?

REading 31 i would say you woud need somone with a clue look up for a tsb and possible reflash of the sistem to correct this problem discribed on a trouble shooter from manufacturer

Presume the Holden one is the same. Sounds exactly like any other CC I've come across.

Your cruze won't hold you back on steep hills, it will disengage and free-wheel. The only model that does hold you back is the commodore upwards because of the bigger engine displacement and transmission ratio's. However put a laden trailer on the como and it too wheel disengage going down hill with cc on.

In a kia it will be a switch failure common fault I have fixed 3 kia 2 ssyangon and 2 hyundai with the same fault as this. they all share the same switch

I answered your question. did not mean to come accross as rude. It will depend on vehicle to what speed cruise control will drop out. Some are 111kmh some are 150kmh. Also aplies to minimum speeds the cruise control will set at. All vehicles are differnt it just comes down to how the software is programmed and what other features that cars has. Some cars have downhill assist which prevents from speed increasing depending on throttle response and speed. it will brake if the engine braking is not suffucient but only very lightly and not at anything over a fairly low speed. I guess its a safety

I question that BFM, cruise control will actually kick to deactivated if your speed exceeds a set limit above the control set speed?

surely not, CC set at 100, punch it to pass, speed gets to 155, drops back to 100 and CC takes over again, just like its supposed to

lusty9, Jun 5, 8:33pm
I thought OP wanted to know if cc disengages going down hill as OP's does on steep grades?

skin1235, Jun 5, 8:46pm
then read BFM's answer, he's saying it is normal for CC to disengage if a set limit overspeed is attained

Thanks - I'll pass it on.
