Taxis.

A friend getting into the taxi business wants advice on the best car (cost ratio) to buy to be a taxi. Camry seems logical but wondered about Aurion Bearing in mind it needs to be about 4 years old.

Sorry meant no more than 4 years old.

The best possible suggestion is to avoid getting into the taxi industry. I'm serious!

Too many Taxis on the road already, all struggling to make a living. Don't they end up waiting 2-3 hrs at Auckland airport for their turn to move onto the rank at the front. Doesn't sound financially viable to me.

They perform roadsisde surgery and disease diagnoses while they're waiting.

Tell your mate to go and buy a Fiat and save us all the big lecture from Jazz lol.

As the OP is based in Lower Hutt I would assume he would be quite happy to get the odd fare to Auckland Airport.

Brave person going into that game now, very poor returns.

Yes I tend to agree, the sad thing is he is an IT (qualified) Tech who cant get a job despite the supposed shortage of IT people in NZ.

Interesting that while there were lots of comments about the state of the Taxi business in NZ , presumably from non-taxi drivers, only a couple actually answered the OP's question.
Personally I think the Camry is a better bet - slightly smaller engine and possibly better resale value

He bought a 2012 Camry

Tell your mate about uber, seems to be the taxi way of the future

I don't know what sort of IT tech your fella is but there is definitely a shortage of skilled IT people which is why we are seeing so many jobs filled by Indians (who I have nothing against, btw). I also see very few if any kiwis applying for these jobs
