Intermittent wipers

Hi all

A car we have just purchased has no variable intermittent wipers- just the standard preset intermittent-low speed-high speed. The higher spec model of the car does have variable so could I scavenge parts?

What are the components of the variable intermittent wipers? Obviously there is the wiper stick itself but what other parts are there? Relays?

Is it a big job to install variable or is it more trouble than it's worth?

A fella I worked for would let me take one of his cars home, a Renault 10, it didn't have intermittent wiper, just one and off. One day they stopped working, but the fix was simple and new switch, donated for the spare Renault parked under the gum trees on his farm.

Oh very funny I do love a new smarty. A late 90s Nissan. It obviously isn't going to be a 3 yr old fandagled electronic car is it.

Have a word to an Auto electrician, have an idea you may need a different wiper motor but could be wrong .The least you would need would be a switch/stalk with the positions.

Wow this brings back memories. You used to be able to buy an accessory intermittent switch. Interrupts the wire going to wiper. But I guess you could only do that with the old single speeders.
I once used a Skoda switchgear with a mini wiper motor and the intermittent on the switch gear worked! Which surprised me since electricity is magic as far as I know.
Sorry op that wasn't helpful but.

you need a pulse to move it from the park position, then the normal park system takes over and completes the movement, most cars use a very small electronic box with the timing system and a set of normal contacts activated for a very short time by that timing system - but they are all hidden in different places

way back before intermittents were common an old push switch mounted on the floor moved the wipers from rest, HT wagon days, sure beat reaching for the switch every 20 seconds in Hunterville fog

HT?
Seen that on a old Ford Transit, dont remember seeing it on a Holden, dipswitch maybe!

not OEM, fitted it out the back of the shed, yes alongside the dipswitch
