USA imports a lot more expensive now

and this is reflected in the asking prices on Trademe.
two years ago, I was selling 2010 Camaro's for low 50's and now I see the cheapest on Trademe is 59k.
Same with the Challengers. Used to be around mid 50's upwards and now the cheapest in $68k.
This is all a direct consequence of a dollar that has fallen from 88c a year ago, to 63c now. I wouldn't be surprised if it went under 60c by years end.

dollar jumped up a bit this week with the better dairy auction so there is hope. Amazes me the people who don't believe they get any benefit from the farming sector, when clearly everyone is paying more for things because of low dairy prices, you see to buy stuff from off shore you must first earn money from off shore to be able to pay for it so lets hope the milk price comes up soon. Oh your welcome

we live in a dairy effected area and most cockies here have shut shop, things have slowed noticeably.

Yeah but its down to 63.5 again now

Yes, but there is a heavy downward bias for the NZ dollar still firmly in play and with the prospect of interest rates rising in the US, these are mere blips upwards as it heads steadily lower.
As an importer, I am one of those weirdo's who look at the rate on a daily basis. All a bit depressing really.

yip the effects of the downturn is hitting farmers now but the trickle affect will get importers with the next shipment onwards so not a good picture. As an exporter who likes toys I would rather have good commodity prices and a firm NZ dollar.

that's good news or me I guess that's where it ends.

Quite interesting, I have been buying electronic components from China. Consistently ask for 20% below advertised cost. Got it every time. Pressure must be on over there.

But are the imports selling at the increased asking prices. The market will ultimately determine the sale price. Local Buyers will have no interest in what the exchange rate is doing.

Damn right, IMO there's too many American cars for sale here already, the market for these expensive toys (by comparison with prices in USA) isn't as big as the importers think it is, especially in uncertain economic times. Excessive prices were being asked for this stuff when the dollar was higher and some of these cars were not especially remarkable or desirable models either.

Chinese have the advertised "Mug" price but only a fool pays it.
20% nothing when dealing with the Chinese :)

True - buy a 20 buck domain name so your email address
is a company name and then you can really cut them
down in price :)
