How accurate are those 50km signs (led)

Sorry I'm making a hash of explaining it! The 50 sign you come into towns that flash "slow down" and show your speed - how accurate are those?
I'm asking at in our fairly new car at 50km/ph our gps shows 45km per hour and the flashing thingy about 47km/ph. So which it right?

They are a "guide" only. ALL the ones in Taranaki are out by at least 7kph (up or down, it makes no diff')

Gps.

Yes I like the gps speed ;) however I will soon find out if it is accurate or not when I get pulled up for speeding

seem to vary according to vehicle size/shape. in a line of traffic travelling at the same speed, they often show major differences for each vehicle.

I must of bein too close to car in front was reading 48 for him and for me was flashing slow down .

I have always found them to read a bit heavy compared to my GPS.

We had one down our street that under read by about 6 kph. This was comparing to GPS.

and do not rely on yr gps when facing a police officer or court they will not accept the accuracy of something that the Americans can use to blow up a single building on the other side of the world compared to a plastic drive gear and a bit of wire

They are way out. They only flash "slow" when I am really moving

they usually stuff out when it rains so im guessing the weather can make them read wrong, But ive noticed them to read pretty much spot on when im driving by myself without any other cars around. (comparing it to my speedo and GPS which read the same anyways) they are normally within 1km/h of my car.

I have found the ones in and around Christchurch to be spot-on.

Going by the comments on here and my own experience I'd say they're all over the place. However part of the problem is it's frequently difficult to tell which car they're reading (multilane).
On the occasions where I know it's me I've seen them read up to 10kph high and low. Some of them just seem to be sitting there with the intention of constantly flashing 'slow now'. i.e. they are set to read high, and the flash/text limit is 71kph in the 70kph zone on the way into town which is just silly really.
