Roadside data downloads

I am looking for another source to verify this claim.
California - DOT (department of Transport) and EPA (environmental protection agency) conducting roadside/ weigh bridge station? electronic data downloads on heavy trucks- looking for high speeds and unsafe braking etc. Computer plugging into truck data port.

Can see californian trucks getting security locked ports pretty quick.

Unfortunately mate the whole world of motoring is being geared towards a "Big Brother" programme. Oz have got plate ID on a electronic system and the cops don't have to type in a plate number to check details it's now done by. (in the words of Allan Parsons Project).
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind, I can read your mind

All to gather the precious loot and tax us blind.

All new cars are coming out with fulltime internet connectivity built in. Its being introduced for "safety" so that vehicle crashes are automatically reported to the authorities. So get used to it. As the great John Key said - nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear.

There is the element of 'We (the authority), know what is good/ best for you the individual' which most independently minded people are likely to be opposed to. (given the muckups etc the authorities have created in the past & likely to continue to do so).
Number plate readers have already been trialled here on the Auckland motorways https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/101400755/automatic-number-plate-recognition-technology-comes-to-aucklands-motorways
(nz police car trails as well?)

I think the police car number plate systems will come in but not yet,
The trails appear to have been good but the cost of setup per car is currently very prohibitive

Serf407. mate i think this statement from that article is a possible concern for Joe/Jane Public. .
"If the vehicle was wanted for any reason, including stolen vehicles, expired registration and disqualified drivers, a patrol vehicle gave chase".

I make reference to the Registration part, The Police Spokesperson is lumping a vehicle (owner) with expired Rego into the same Category as a Criminal who has stolen car or a Disqualified drive. The penalties are less severe for non Rego as opposed to the other two offences, but the Cops are throwing them all into the same basket. Can you imagine the Trauma for an older motorist who's rego has lapsed being chased along the Motorway, you'd have to be pretty hardened towards the cops if your pulse, heart rate and adrenaline flow doesn't go off the scale when a siren goes off behind you. It's all a money gathering exercise that will only become more streamlined and electronic as we all head onwards and slower.

This!
The fact that people have not risen up about the absurd fines and collection methods for late tax by way of expired vehicle license fees is a testament to the severity of the propaganda that we ourselves pay for.

We would never stand for a 1000% fine on a GST or rates payment that was a month late. Why on earth do we allow it for vehicle related tax?

It's not on.

Governments need to be reminded that the ability to legally forcibly take money from people is something that should be exercised with the utmost respect. Both by means of collection, enforcement and how those precious funds are utilised.

The Government and it's agencies (like Police) are supposed to be public servants they should never ever be allowed to forget that.
