My car came ex Japan and when I filled it, the OBC told me I'd get 1364km from full. Damn cool, thought I, but I've generally only got around 880km per full tank in my 9 months of ownership so far. This tells me that in Japan, it was pretty much idling all the time when driving. BTW, I've driven in Japan several times and never got up to any decent speed - it was like driving in a car park, or Auckland ;)
I tend to assume that any Jimport I buy has never really had it's engine extended in the same way we drive in NZ, so I tend to give it a sort of mini run in period and build up to full-on thrashing (LOL) slowly. I have no idea if it's necessary or not, but what the hell. Whatever works, eh?

Dude I dunno where you were driving in Japan but it sounds like rush hour driving. Certainly nothing like what Ive experienced most of the time when over there. Actually I recently experienced what felt like being in a scene from fast and Furious heading to an auction. about 30 exotica flew past like we were parked (we were at 90km/h) BUT-to answer your question. I definitely recommend taking any fresh import for a good long drive then giving it a service. The reason being that an import will have spent up to 3 months being turned on fer a couple of minutes then turned off.-as they shuffle through auction and onto ships etc.
