If I take a grease nipple off my old trailer is a new one likely to have the same thread?

Take the clear nipple off the other side and change it over and see if the nipple is blocked first

depends how old probably, could be metric(various pitches) or imperial thread(bsf,bsp,unf,npt), along with different diameters. Best take sample with you.

One is course thread the other is fine. simple for most applications.

First check to see if it can be unblocked! Remove it from the hub, mount it in the vice (not against the thread, hold it with the jaws against two of the hexagon flats!) and try pumping grease through. Chances are that will clear it.
