Germans are waking up to the fact .

It all starts with that Al Gore . how much money has this prick made eh ? he should have his balls whipped off !

lots of interesting feedback at the end of the report

basically, I don't see the systems for making ' green ' energy, anywhere near cut the mustard. frankly we need a huge technology leap to super conductors and super capacitors, . using hydrophillic polymers

I think that the whole CO2 argument, is an utter load of tripe. Firstly put into perspective the relevant percentages of gases that make up the Earths atmosphere and also the uses that they perform and the whole CO2 thing is a rort. nitrogen makes up 70% of the air, Oxygen 19.8%-21% which leaves about 10% for all the other known gases. Consider that CO2 shows up at .005% and that hardly rates as damming the world to toxicity. CO2 is widely used in production of beer and carbonated drinks, Meat industry, and the flora of the world relies on it's production. Hidden agendas by the "Fossil Fuel" producers, will always convey conspiracy theories on why, any other mode other than fossil fuel as a means of propulsion will be detrimental to "everything". Utter crap! The devious methods and mouth pieces used to convey this message is to stop Science, invention and futuristic development of transport for Man, regardless of what natural supplies may still be available for extraction. We drive ICE in the main, but strangely enough we retain a "Steam Age" mentality as far as progress goes. Me, personally I am happy to embrace the EV way of transport and the more that get on board, gives the boffins the confidence to further improve what is currently available, more swiftly and at a greater rate of development.

Al Gore was proved to be an absolute two faced a. hole when a few years ago a newspaper showed his use of electricity and heating fuel not including his cars was astronomical and had actually increased .A classic case of do as i say not as i do.

That article says far more about Germany's energy consumption profile than about EVs, and makes a pretty good argument for NZ's adoption of EVs.

Compare the two countries' energy usage and especially the difference in renewables in electricity generation:

2011 is the latest data set available for both countries.

The same argument was used for crushing clunkers "save the planet " . But as we know it takes a lot of energy from fossil fuel burning to keep making new cars . The E car has just followed on in the same theme . It will only be green once manufacture is 100% green , at present they arent "saving the planet " Still they are a step in the right direction .So whats the answer , new nuclear plants as an alternative to fossil fuels ?, wind & solar will never cut it even if put them on every hill

I've never understood why in this country we haven't researched and developed long ago the serious use of Tidal movements and power generated from the ocean ? Theres endless power available there - we're surrounded by moving water, billions of tons of it and to tap into that surely would be very sensible indeed, and one presumes eco friendly. Wind isn't entirely reliable and solar, well a sunny day helps ! But the ocean is ALWAYS moving. So why the hell don't we use it ?

Didnt they try Sea Power in the north a few years ago but the Greenies and Tangata Whenua complained ,the Treaty was invoked and the project was scrubbed Correct me if i,m wrong.

Oh perhaps the Taniwha didn't get paid off sufficiently ?

Tidal electricity generation requires some pretty substantial infrastructure investment and like any structure exposed to salt water the maintenance requirements are high, though nowhere near as high as using waves for power generation.

It also helps if you have a big tidal range and or catchment. The Kaipara definitely fits the catchment criteria but still has less than 4 metres of range.

The Annapolis Royal Tidal Generating Station in Nova Scotia has the Bay of Fundy's 15m tide range to use and the Annapolis River as catchment so works but has significant environmental impacts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6cDtXTMs9Y

I think it is energy poor per $ invested, it's not as smart as one may think . big tidal height differences help. but there are a few places in the world anywhere near suitable for that
