Anyone here tried the split CV boots?

Video looks impressive, need to do one on my 4WD and not keen on damaging the CV joint itself, trying to remove it from the shaft.
Guess if the glue is good, should be no problems?

I am not sure i could be convinced to use it.

But maybe i am a bit too old school.

Yeah I can understand some would not like it, to me it makes sense "if" the glue is strong enough.
Wouldn't be disturbing suspension/wheel alignment etc, and can still put new grease in. To me makes it a $50 job which I can do, or I could spend 3 times or more getting the garage to do it. which I could also do, but don't want to damage the joint getting it off the shaft. Just curious in case someone on here has had good success with one.

i have used them and have some on my shelf they are not cheap and i dont know how long it lasted as i never seen the car i used one on again.
Zou have to work absolut clean no grease near it to start with and let it dry overnight before you add the grease and close it off with the clamps

They are quite cheap if you buy online. My advice if first time around is to ditch the stainless straps and buy some top quality large cable ties, easier and safer to deal with and you don't need any special tools. Good quality modern ties last as long as the boot so no problem there. I didn't watch the video but there is a trick to putting them together, you do an inch or so at a time and then glue the next section and so on. I have some on hand but as I have the gear I tend to do the job in the traditional way, for you though it may be a plan. Just keep an eye on it, daily, then weekly until you gain trust. That way if it does fly apart you should get a chance at doing it again. As intrade says, clenliness is key, also use the CORRECT grease, CV grease is a special type and you may have to ask for it as some Repco's etc keep it out the back. Good luck!

I used a pair on my Jeep a few months ago, brilliant kit, as mentioned keep everything clean and make certain you don’t get grease close to the glueing lip. Mine had covered 5k before I sold it and they were still perfect.

I see the kit on the video had cable ties with it.

Cable ties on a cv joint.

Piss poor advice.

Always use the stainless straps provided in the kit. No tool required.

thejazzpianoma, Aug 1, 8:59pm
Yet to have one break, will let you know when I do.

I avoid cable ties as have seen too many which are loose on the joint as you cant get enough tension on them. I have the tool to do the stainless straps, its dirt cheap and makes life much easier.

They dont break.

They leak.
