I think they look a lot better than the previous model.More like the samurai. I like the jungle green one. Can’t afford a new one. How long does a car take to depreciate to half it’s original value these days.

Less than 50 metres if it's straight down a bank.

You will be waiting a long time for the new 4th generation to depreciate.
Well outdated (1999 model facelift in 2005) 3rd generation sales are up 3.5 % so far in 2018 on same period of 2017. Selling at record levels.
I traded a 2008 at 3 yrs old with 40 thou k and it was gone in 24 hours. Dealer got 4k less than new price.
Yes. Even some 80s models go for silly prices, especially if they haven’t had much off road use. I think this new model will be very popular for those who want a compact but capable ladder frame 4x4, and they will probably hang on to them.

That’s the one. Was called jungle green on the site I looked at but it’s almost metallic rather than what I would call jungle green.

Which would make the VW the more logical choice for the OP from a depreciation standpoint.

I only sold mine because I bought a boat & could not see behind. Needed something wider. They are very capable even with standard tread. New one will be even better with brakes stopping spinning wheel to get unstuck. Couple of gripes, upright windscreen does not like stones hitting it a much as swept back screens & gusty side winds at open road speed keep you awake.

Yeah but. VWs 6 times the car so a 2 yr old ones a crazy bargain!

New on should be more capable off road with better clearance. I will be in for one.

Very retro. The first thing that struck me was the tyres look to skinny.

that will be for emission reasons . they shoild fit bisicle tyres on the vw disel it would half the emissions for the retarded knotheads who make the rules. eco tyres have no grip but meh you got 100 airbags so no need to stop right.

They've tried to make it look like a mini Humvee, and done a pretty good job of it too IMO. The weekend hunting and fishing brigade will be breaking their doors down I'd say to get one.

I recon they are going to sell really well.
As somebody else has said, the current Jimny sells well, despite being extremely dated. It appears the new one hasn't comprised off road ability, and has very desirable styling.
That styling is is going to win them a heap of sales. I have seen the styling compared to the Jeep wrangler, Hummer, Merc G Class. It is cute enough to appeal to fashion conscious females, and serious enough looking to appeal to males.
This car is pretty much has no competition is the space of small but properly capable 4wd. Short wheel base suv's are hard enough to find, let alone one with with ladder chaises, solid rear axle, low range etc.
Ah, good old pizza cutters, like the original jeeps and land rovers.
Given how light these are, I don't think the skinney tires will pose issues.

Yeah I like them. Big improvement in styling from the current model.
Interesting that some of the pics are taken in Queenstown and Wanaka. I wonder if a prototype has been here or perhaps photoshopped?

Succeeds at looking cool and a bit cute without being over styled and too feminine. Plus optimised bumpers and exposed nuts. Whoar.

Jimny could well be the lowest depreciating new car currently available. A quick analysis of those currently on TM suggests they depreciate at less than $700 per year based on current new price.
Of more interest to me is if there will be a glut of the current model for sale once the new model comes on stream?
