Powerall - portable jumpers

Does these devices work with a car that has been in storage for a year or more ie - a totally dead battery? A battery charger has been tried unsuccessfully. To what extent do they work up to - a light that has been on overnight and nearly totally drained the battery?

Cheers.

If the car has been stored for a year or more with the battery terminals left connected, then you may as well consider that battery to be scrap lead and replace it with a new one. Even if you were lucky enough to revive it briefly, it will not last nor be reliable. It's toast.

Yeah . the car's not being used, if it was they would get a new battery, pass the WOF etc. If they just want to jump the car and do a bit of tidying around the garage do these portable jumpers work?

To what extent do they work? With a good battery car if you parked outside on a holiday and left a headlight on overnight and really drained the battery would the portable jumpers work?

I had a portable jump pack for a few years (Must buy a new one as very handy) don't know about these powerall ones, but mine would start a car in the situation you describe. But if the battery has completely collapsed and is utterly dead then I can't imagine any amount of jump starting either from another car or portable jump pack is going to work. Your battery will have to be somewhat healthy to begin with, just discharged. Yours has gone beyond that point by the sound of it.

Cheapest way out of this would possibly be to either push the car in and out of the garage, or go and buy a cheap arse battery from pick a part or a wrecker with enough life left to be jump started. And then start it once a week so it doesn't bugger up again.

IF you are going to use the jumper for something else besides this purpose I'd say go for the doctor. Itll start a normal up to mid sized car provided its not going to have to crank forever. Once its started you'll still have to leave the jumper in place in most cases.

With Lithium Ion jumpstarters, you need to disconnect them as soon after the car has started, or the leads or jump unit may end up toast.

modern car dead battery--well that's not gonna be an option.
funny though-the delivery truckies use them and Ive never seen them disconnect the jumper till the job was done. -shows what I know,

They’re ideal for a modern car with a dead battery.
They’re not ideal for a car that requires more than a few seconds cranking or a car with a battery in poor condition.
The job is “done” when the vehicle is started. If left connected after starting the vehicle the leads will start to get hot after 20-30 seconds, then melt the outer covering. In cheap units, a charge will also feed back into the Lithium charger and potentially cook it.

they all should have diode protection, typically thats the external block on the lead.
the diode pack do fail and you can buy replacements. if someone replaces it with just a normal lead then it can back feed and cause problems.

typically portable jumpers won't work on dead flat battery. they work ok on batteries that are just flat enough to not turn over. they basically just top up but not completely recharge from nothing, they are simply not big enough for that.
