Cheverolet Cruz 2002

jack_3, Jul 24, 7:57pm
Looking at buying my daughter a first car we've viewed a Cheverolet Cruz and organised a pre-purchase inspection for this afternoon but I just thought I'd check to see if anyone could tell me of any known issues with these cars that I should be aware of? Thanks in advance :-)

I love Chevy's but must say, I'm not a fan of these. I will let others elaborate, but I will just say they are a poor choice and I wouldn't want to own one.

This will save you and us a lot of time and typing. Just enter "Cruze" in the Keyword Box (under Message board) to the left and last year in the date posted. It will give you all the opinions you're looking for.

2002 Cruz. They ARE a first generation Suzuki Swift.
They do have about 5% chev parts but they are all cosmetic.
As long as its two wheel drive its the same reliability as a swift. Ie pretty darn reliable.
The only issues ive experienced with them is changing the bulbs in the bumper mounted rear lights is a bit of a nightmare. Also the front shock absorber top mount wears out causing a clunking/rattling in the front end.
The mounts are pretty easy to change though. --$250-$300 job at a workshop.

toby-have a look at the year they are looking at. I think you are talking about the "other" cruise --the 2008 or newer one.-The only thing they share with this one is the name

Weren't these badged as Holden Cruze also?

Thanks Mimik3, that was very helpful :-)

They sure were. But the chev cruz was generally a jap import alongside the swift. The holden was sold NZ New.
UM FROM MEMORY a fair few of the holdens were also AWD rather than just front wheel drive.
OP just one comment -They are getting on a bit age wise.

Just a heads up--this all refers to the 1500 AWD AU model. Great info but the Chev could be one of three variations. 1300 2wd/1500 2wd or 1500 awd (same as this holden) MOST likely it will be a 1300 2wd

It is indeed a 1300 2wd. Not too fussed on age to be honest my car isn't much newer (Suzuki SX4) and we cant afford more than what this one is going for. She'll either use it until it's no longer feasible to fix or she'll upgrade when she gets a job and can pay for it herself. Its got prettly low kms for age and seems to have been well looked after. We'll see what the inspection comes back with :-)
