Last tour of duty in NQ, hired a Toyota Camry Hybrid from Avis. was cheaper than a real Camry. ,I guess Toyota gave Avis a few hundred of them because they cant sell them. Nice car to drive, especially in "B" mode whatever that is. heaps of engine braking when you take the foot off the go pedal. Battery only lasts a couple of minutes, it charges and discharges all the time depending on how you drive it. interesting watching the monitor showing where the power is coming from and going to. One night I drove all the way home from the pub without the motor starting. all 1.5k's. at 40kph. Did just over 1100kms and worked out at 6.1 liters/100k's. didnt think that was all that flash, be interested to see what a real Camry would do.
Sounds like an expensive and complicated way to save SFA.
I also hired a Camry last time in OZ and they gave me a Hybrid version. I averaged 5lt/100km. Most of the time was at the speed limit because of their no tolerance policy but did give it a squirt now and then. I was rather surprised by how well it went, it performed almost as well as a 2.4lt Camry in my opinion.

We had a Camery on hire in Aus and drove it from Adelaide to Darwin and it averaged just under 9 km /100km for the whole trip .

Taxi drivers would be bust without the Camry. I just got back from the USA and most of the taxi fleet is a Camry also they had alot of rav4 taxis not sure if they were hybrid or not they love them.
