Yep. If the car doesn't recognize the key is in it or close to it then yes you can get that issue. It's an anti theft measure obviously.

According to Subaru, aprox 10% of cars have this issue when changing a battery in a transponder.

So it means you will need to get your car towed to Subaru to get them to sort it to punch in some code etc I guess, after they have diagnosed the problem of which of course they'll charge you for.

Dont seem like such a great idea to me. The secret might be to park outside Subaru before you change batterys in the transponder lol.

UM well--lets put it this way-I must be very very VERY lucky if they are right. Never had an issue changing batteries in transponder keys.

Yes but how many batteries in this particular male modEl. It rings true to me.

When the transponder started playing up a few days later the car wouldn't start. New transponder fixed the problem.

As Franc said and the car dealer confirmed it has something to do with anti theft
