you know the expansion rate of stuff like that i know we had up to 0.2mm expansion on hot machined items verses cold. its why you machine in 2 stages anything first you shape it then you final cut it. With cnc the expansion rate and wear on tools can be programmed in to and the machines torque sensors calculate the wear on the tool and you mesure every one still . in china i would say they put the rejects in the order also as no one mesures nothing time is money .
in my apperntice i had to mesure it fill and sign a form send it back in to the robot pallet system . then it went to the forman of the facrory shed. They mesured and tested everything again and if it mached what you said it got the final ok and was sent for assembly .
I was in every stage of the factory including The test lab. There you got one off parts to make . Nothing had any signs of what they where for. but i always wanted to figure out what it was for The forman sometimes knew more. One thing i made i clearly recall Was a part for a seat for the leopard tank.
Whith todays scizofrenic PC media that would make me a war criminal now right?

Had to cringe when the arc welder came out for the temporary bracket, ( and on a nicely finished cast iron surface. ).
Wouldn't you drill and tap a few holes ? Be all ready for the next time, if there was one that is.
