Not touch, piece of A4 printer paper folded in half [2 times thickness], screw coil on with paper between, push coil to compress paper lightly and tighten screws. Remove paper [should be tight but not enough to tear] and check there's no contact when rotated.

well the metal parts should not touch obviously electrical induction is not mechanical rubbing. Did you test if your trigger is actuarly working as something has to collapse the electromagnetic field of the coil its how all work they just use different components eaven the tin lizzi spark boxes worked like that triggering the collaps of the field to induce spark. and so do coil on plugs of a 2017 model car.

also is the other part still magetic as the magnets who rotate past the 2 metal parts of the coil unduce the charge if they lost its magnetic strenght then you would also have no spark as the coil wont charge often 6 volt on the like of scooters you can rig up a external coil if you feed it the trigger .

Sorry to get technical, but in the absence of the proper spec I use a 7 thou feeler gauge.
