AT sent "a car dealer" a copy of a ticket for a car in their stock. ##It happens. Then records are checked and at the time of the offence the dealer did not own the car. That is a matter of public record. The dealer sent AT an e mail pointing out the time/date of offence and the time/date of the change of registered owner. AT response was a form letter -once again saying--as the registered owner at the time of the offence you are responsible. HMM a matter of public record they were not the registered owner and AT can't look it up to see this fact.? --eeejuts.

I would file it in the cylindrical cabinet , go to court. then ask the judge for costs

That wouldn't by any chance be a dealer in the Henderson area? They are targetted by burocrazy.

ohh you are gonna love this. If you don't request a hearing then the case goes to court in essence judge only -no defendant etc and you don't get the chance for a hearing.

Something really amusing. LTSA have made it very clear that it is illegal to divulge previous owner details to ANYONE. AT expect the dealer to break the law.

My friend had a car stolen in Mt Eden, reported it stolen to Police, was found 4 months later about 1 KM away it had been issued 6 tickets by AT for expired WOF and Rego., they had repeatedly gone back and issued the tickets, interesting to note, some tickets had been issued at 2 and 3am. rust never sleeps, nor do those money grabbing aholes. Not once did they bother to check if it was stolen, then had the audacity to threaten the owner with court action if he failed to pay up.

HMM_it seems that AT expect people to break the law in order to do the job AT are paid to do.

Be kind and forgiving. The poor sods are understaffed, underpaid and overworked according to the Mayor and his underlings. !

! My last trip to NZ I was sent a ticket for parking and speeding in Taupo sadly the car was in AK at the rental cars workshop with no brakes when the tickets were issued, called the car rental place and they cracked up laughing telling me they get an average of 10 like it a week. !

"The dealer concerned" DID contact nzta who then sent an e mail confirming in no uncertain terms the vehicle didn't belong to the dealer at offence time,That it isn't legal to divulge previous owner details and that AT as an enforcement agency ARE legally able to look up the information.

Then your friend must request a hearing, and triple his costs remittance. I think you must be informed by the court of proceedings against you. probably the Reif of the Shire ( Sheriff )may not knock on your door with a summons, but it will be there somewhere
