Typical of many kiwi tradies. They may be good at their job but have no real idea on how to run a business or where their income comes from - the customer.

In my experience not all electricians will be able to certify (issue electrical warrant) suggest you simply rind around to find out which electricians in your area are able to certify and contact one who CAN certify rather than all the others.
Edits to add a quick google only comes up with 2 in aucks
States it must be an electrical Inspector not just a sparkie
Any registered electrical inspector can issue an electrical warrant.

Hopefully the caravan will not have any asbestos in it, though even fibreglass can be nasty. Generally better to go and see people with a few large photos of your caravan. Depends on where in auckland you are etc. Can think of a few auto sparkies who could do an upgrade by morning smoko, if they have a clear run.

no fiberglass its aluminum roof . I can take it anywhere . Its basically a trailer and you crackup the roof and pull out the bed sides canvas and plyboard .

Thank you for your help and time in posting that info. been trailer I can easily tow it anywhere to get it quoted. I scrolled through that facebook page and got a contact from the nzmca fb page. Wasn't keen to pay the membership to get the info . rather spend that on the camper :)

Any electrician can legally do the work for the upgrade. However not all electricians will have any experience with caravan wiring, so they won't be familiar with the specific rules for wiring them.
It's something of a specialist job - and it's not always easy to get cables into where they are needed. You need someone who has experience with caravans.
Once the work has been done, an electrical inspector checks and issues the electrical WOF.

What about contacting the Caravan & portacom hire companys, they have to have it done on large numbers on a regular basis.

The local caravan or motor caravan club should be able to direct you to someone good in your area.

If the upgrade essentially makes it a NEW system/install, then i think the sparky can issue wof for that first one (unless its changed), but definitely inspector for subsequent ones.

I think the cable has to be at least 1.5mm² and at least 7 strand so as to be flexible. Can be TPS or flex . Cannot come into direct contact with any polystyrene insulation unless it is a special type of TPS, (which I think is coloured purple?), and must be protected from vibration damage or possible contact with metal bodywork etc. This normally means that it needs to be enclosed in flexible (corrugated) conduit, usually the split type for convenience.

The important issue here is the earth bonding to the steel work, amps of main circuit breaker and RCD in a modern plastic sub main, rest is easy, also recommended is the portable supply cable also has another RCD at the plug in end. If system is powered by a generator - you can't get an electric shock , issue is plugging into mains power.

Well being a pop top wiring will be low. As to what you are upgrading/adding/etc. we dunno regulation changes re rcd's generally simply mean a change to neutral bars easy and simple

Great Thank you :) Had one guy contacted me yesterday from one of the links you added. So that was great cheers . The caravan outside plug connector look like that needs replacing looks brittle and I keen on adding 2 powerpoints with a usb connections and had one outside plug to charge the daughters wheelchair in the awning . There is a tiny hot water cylinder plumped in and and the old switchboard is next to that . The trailer's tail lights have been replaced by the previous owner with leds. Edited to say I can live without any extras added.

l dealt with Milford auto electrical recently. They are very good to deal with and realistically priced.
