Replacing missing vin plate

jason_247, Aug 3, 7:21am
Long story but a project ute has had its nz issue vin plate go missing after a painter decided to pull it off.

Have checked ltsa website and they say certain vtnz inspectors can reissue if id can be confirmed. Truck has correct numbers on the chassis and firewall. So im guessing thats enough?

Anyone have experiance in this. Local vtnz dont know how it works or how much it costs

Are you talking about a NZTA VIN plate or a factory vin plate?
If a NZTA plate then tell your local VTNZ (assuming it's a compliance center) to get off their arse and ring NZTA to find out what to do.

They bloody well should know, its their business. I'm presuming you actually got put through to the station manager?

jason_247, Aug 3, 9:08am
Yes the nzta plate.

Manager in one vtnz said he had no idea and i should ring nzta.

Manager of the second vtnz said best to dereg the truck and get a new compliance from scratch. Which is totally wrong

So what state of rego is the ute at?-on hold - current- dereg?

He should of at least transfered you to a compliance centre or given you the number of one. Sylvia Park comes to mind.

Any entry certification centre can do this.
not all vtnz aa or vinz do entry certs. Find one that does they will inspect the vehicle snd check that all numbers match then confirm with nzta that ok to issue a new/replacement vin plate. There will no dobt be a small charge for this

send the bill to the painter !

I strongly suspect you went to a "wof only" testing station.
Go to any place that does vehicle compliance WITH the vehicle and they will be able to create a new VIN plate.
it would be easier if you had the remains of the old VIN tag.

It'll be in their tin of all the nut's & bolt's that they take off and don't put back on.
Especially the shiny ones!

Yip, I have a tin just like that, . nuts, bolts, screws, brackets, plastic thingies, you wonder were they all come from . I recon i'd be a dab hand at building a minimalist engine, . I mean, with my experience, what could possibly go wrong ? haha lol
