Prius taillights. finally seen enough!

Ive noticed more & more Toyota Prius' with taillights not working but Ive been reluctant to comment because of the usual human trait of 'once you notice something you keep seeing them' but it can't be just coincidence. The amount I see driving around at night with no taillights at all, ride or drive up alongside to let them know only to see headlights on fine. Now tonight taking the bike the long way home after a hard day there were 2 within minutes of each other again complete blackout rear end but headlights on (& no, they were different cars, a blue & a white one) This doesnt include the shitloads more Ive seen that have one light out. does Toyota have a wiring problem with these things?

Almost as bad as the numerous one eyed B series falcons I see all the time.

What cracks me up is the tossers who drive around with their fog lights on, even though there is no fog, the only problem being, only one of them works.

Arr they are makin em safer. more economical-all the jazz.
And five getzz ya ten ya could go to an old 40's 50's 60's 70's UNSAFE car with REAL steel in it and the old bulbs old as they are would be good as NEW.

Havent noticed that one, although I do live in South Aucks where its not unusual to see several cars in a row all with a headlight out

Might be our outback type roads down here that keeps making them blow, not like the smooth highways of Aucks, Mind you most roads will seem smooth at a stop or 30kph crawl lol.
I get to observe motoring behavior all day every day, you start noticing trends to break the monotony lol.

mustve made a cockup with the B series, my old AU ute doesnt suffer this issue & our Marlborough property has a pretty gnarly road, a few Kms further up the valley past our place its posted as '4wd only' road & even our 80s Hilux has fun, I have got hung up on the towbar a few times going through one of the fords, its that deep & steep

The VW Golfs and Passats of the early 2000s were pretty bad for having one dead tail light. The fact that they had a very conspicuous large LED ring tail light design at a time when LED tail lights were still unusual made it stand out.

Prius like a lot of new cars has a dashboard that is always lit up, day or night. That probably makes them much more prone to people failing to turn their lights on, compared to older cars?

nah, this isn't lights left off, this is headlights on, taillights NOT WORKING

Boss has a BA - always replacing the LH headlight bulb. And it's the most awkward bastard to get at too.

Does the computer not check the lights on startup?

I am surprised that in this day and age and with all this super dooper technological stuff that cars have, surely its not too difficult to provide a warning showing if a bulb has blown/not working. The 1979 Datsun 180B that I used to own had an individual brake and tail light warning if at least one bulb wasnt working.
