Yea insurance details will be important. Some insurers let you buy the wreck even after paying out. If it is stuffed it is stuffed thats life on the road.

Yep had that happen recently, Insurance writeoff for a bowed boot. Car easily repaired by old school workmanship but too expensive for modern regulations & costings.
