I have a RVR here that needs new front shocks, every catalogue we look at lists shocks for "widebody" and std body. How can I tell which mine is?, The parts suppliers I have spoken too can not tell me. The chassis number starts wit N23W- and it is a 1994 full time 4wd with a 4g63 DOHC engine. It does not have plastic guard flares on it and it is badged as RVR X2. The spare wheel is mounted under the rear and it does not have a full width bull bar, just a 1/2 sized nudge bar. So is it a "widebody" or a std body?

That parts supplier should be able to identity the difference in shocks so it could be matched to yours all though it can be a pain.maybe take a sample in

Yes, that is an option, I was hoping to get the shocks before I pulled the old ones out, a bit of a pain working 50 plus hours a week and living 45 mins away from the parts shops who are usually only open till noon on a saturday, oh well, might have to take the car off the road for a week to get the job done I suppose.

Had a similar porblem with my 1998 RVR but cant remember the details other than I couldnt get replacments and ended up having to have all 4 rebuild by Shock Absorber Services.

Yours will be the narrow body. Widebody is usually a Super Sports Gear or Hyper Sports Gear with the plastic fender flares. Narrow body typically are 4 lug pattern while the widebody has a five lug pattern.

Robin -I would suggest looking at this the other way round. 2 variants in shock absorber. Ok so ask the parts place to identify the difference between the two shocks. Extra Lug Different top mount etc. Then look at yours to see which it matches to.
Once you have the OEM then the parts shops should be able to cross reference and get you the correct bits. Silly question I suppose but did you get a price from Mitsubishi dealer?
Might be wrong but I think the widebody is the N23WG.
