LDV V80, such cool vans. They'll last 4eva.

You would think they would pay him to take the listing down and fix the heap to avoid the bad publicity. Well they would if they had any brains

bigfatmat1, Sep 6, 8:40am
This is a local vehicle it was discussed on a local fb page. Where LDV NZ replied as well.

The Gearbox did not take 3 months to arrive. It took the customer 3 months to get the vehicle in to be fixed. This was the same with the heater core. The fuel tank debris may of caused a breakdown 6-8 times however was fixed first time it was taken to workshop. The heater core did not explode. It simply developed a small leak. LDV has offered to pay his outstanding servicing bills as well as put the vehicle right. LDV NZ has bent over backwards trying to help him. However this guy has his nose out of joint. He drives round in this van with big sign writing saying "Lousy Defective Vehicle. I believe LDV have gone above and beyond to help this guy even offering to buy the vehicle back at near the price the customer paid for. All offers have been rejected. LDV also directed him to the motor vehicle disputes process but all offers of help have ended nowhere. Also the trailer towing and hill start is a matter of giving the vehicle more acceleration than you would think to get to 5kmph before the hill start releases the brake pressure. Van is advertised at a price that is way more than market value so clearly has no intention of selling it.

It doesn't sound as bad as some Ford Transits and VW Transporters I have known of.

friendly_prawn, Sep 6, 7:03pm
Aha, fair enough. They have tried to get rid of the problem, which is what I would have expected them to do.

I guess the owner is just really annoyed with all the issues and is more worried about alerting the public than the $.

poppy62, Sep 6, 7:19pm
So why would he advertise the vehicle at a price that is far above the others of the same year. That is $10K-20K more. Must be a Unionist.

friendly_prawn, Sep 6, 9:45pm
Obviously he doesn't want to sell. He's more worried about getting the message out there about how bad these vans are. Or perhaps he's just nasty and enjoys sticking it to anyone that annoys him. Who knows!

Its as biased a point of view as the guy with "A" 2 million km LVV van.
Truth being he has a fleet with a total of a million k's

friendly_prawn, Sep 6, 11:37pm
Biased? In what way?

elect70, Sep 6, 11:56pm
I had a brand new in 82 datsun Bluebird Sw as commercial vehicle ( sold with no rear seat . It had much the same issues all within 2 years plus a noisy diff . so nothing unusual

kcf, Sep 7, 3:17am
I'd say the truth will be somewhere between the seller's story, and LDV's story.

Rather than one side or the other being 100% spot on.

kazbanz, Sep 7, 3:27am
The way the tale is being spun makes it clear that he has done over a million k's in his van--singular. Far from the truth.he is a fleet owner with several of them

friendly_prawn, Sep 7, 4:13am
You have lost me. Even carjam confirms the vans mileage. And a 4 year old vehicle shouldn't be starting to rust out like it is. Sure he's probably jazzing things up about but I think anyone would in that situation. But if you go through the issues. heater controls replaced twice, gearbox needed replacing etc etc. I think he's certainly struck a dog.

Aside from the rust, I think it can sometimes, happen. You strike bad cars in nearly any make. So he's probably a little over the top in how he is handling it, but I still dont blame him before not being happy with all the issues he's had with it.

cabrio1, Sep 8, 5:48am
We have one as a work van, less than a year old, v low mileage .
Stone chips on the bonnet have rust streaks already, hmm that's a worry for down the track.

tamarillo, Sep 8, 6:57am
FAir enough, but is it realistic to expect top brand quality and budget brand price? Maybe paints not as think, maybe owners of cheap stuff need to allow for that and look at value. Like flying jet star and expecting air no service

supernova2, Oct 1, 8:02am
So it's the fault of the brand that the owner of the vehicle didn't do something about the damage to the paint? Any vehicle with stone chips will rust - yes even galv ones if the chip is bad enough.
Are you somehow expecting that the van should have selfhealing paint or what?
