Changes to WOF Checklist

Has the list of items to inspect on a WOF changed?
https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/659325791.jpg Because it sure looks shorter than usual. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/659325962.jpg
And what does one ask to get the Engine Oil section filled out?

So often I read how important it is to use the correct oil, filters, coolant, etc for your vehicle. But every Auckland mechanic / service company we have used so far, never list the product name on the itemised invoice? Is there a reason for this?

Is there anyone in Auckland that does itemise what products they use? I would love to know where you are. It would be nice to know that the correct products have been used when the car is serviced.

INTRADE: you moved! Now I gotta find a new mechanic. Any recommendations in Whangarei that are as good as you? :-)

My god littlerae1. The only face that rivals that, is the one bashfulbro had on here a few years back. I still chuckle about it. You could have been related.

"R/front door does not open from outside"

Isn't that a fail?

Pass, it only has to open from the inside. You were supposed to destroy earlier copies of WoF regs, but I keep them all. going back to just a thin A5 booklet. They used to have to from both inside and outside, but the outside part was deleted - often rules are not changed, just reworded, or sections deleted. Most workshops will have oil branding on their signage, or on the lube sticker. You can always ask.

Your collection would be fantastic as a scanned PDF for downloading ;-)

To me that didn't look like a WOF check sheet, it says "Safety inspection report" Was it just one of those cheesy service "that doesn't include an oil and filter" checks?

Photo is to grainy to read the fine print as to whether or not it was a WOF inspection

There was a discusion on an update course on the door thing, and I told the tutor it had been inside and outside, he wanted to see the document himself. So I gave him one of my old WoF regs with it in, he said he'd bring it back the next day, and I haven't seen it since. I guess he found out it wasn't suposed to exist.

Yeah, but what about everything else? How do we know if the products used are good quality and recommended by the vehicle manufacturer? I am guessing that not all oil, filters, etc are the same quality?

Oil has a whole bunch of standards - SAE, API, ECEA, they usually exceed what the manufacturer recommends. Hard to find a bad oil, but it's easy to use an inappropriate oil. Most shops will use a bulk oil to cover most stuff, and a smaller supply of special oils only a few cars take. Just ask what they use, Google it, then take them to court.

LOL stornello!

intrade - awesome. I was getting worried about having to find a new mechanic. My car is waaaay overdue for service and has been sitting for a while. I'll get all the cobwebs cleaned off and then contact you about a suitable time. Yipeee!
