You could try the AA, or VTNZ. Or better still, take it tho the garage where you get your servicing done

in my opinion you are best served using Car inspection services or your own Garage.
That said there is a LOT of information you can gather for free before paying for an inspection. ESPECIALLY if the car is a fresh import from overseas.

I used to go with Car Inspection Services because they have saved me $$$ on detecting faults, even with vehicles off the dealership with brand new WOFs (somehow 2 leaking shocks passed a WOF). They were also one of the few that did manual compression tests (if you want that done). But my last experience with them was less convincing. They managed to complete a full inspection with compression check, on a boxer motor, with the vehicle parked on a slanted driveway, within about 20 minutes. This was performed in my absence (owner was present).
I've had AA miss a faulty centre diff on a vehicle with which this was a known common fault.
So I think no one is 100% and there will be differing opinions between different inspectors.

If you want comments like "stiff rear vision mirror" as a potential warning, then the AA are your guys. (actual wording on AA report to customer).

You forgot the part where they simultaneously ignore or don't check for serious model specific faults.
