Sounds like smart business for the everyday Joe to sell his car if you live/work in the area.

kazbanz, Sep 2, 2:36am
I think the dealer does have a valid point. if its illegal for a dealer to display a car for sale roadside then why should a member of the public ?
paint me a cynic too but the wrighting on the cars in the stuff article looked very similar,.

jmma, Sep 2, 2:45am
They should just park their cars there without any signs, just to fill the gaps maybe :o)

sw20, Sep 2, 2:47am
Most of them won't have plates let alone a WOF.

johotech, Sep 2, 2:52am
What difference does it make that they're Indians?
Surely they're actually NZrs?

lookoutas, Sep 2, 2:59am
In some places - same difference.

easygoer, Sep 2, 3:01am
No kazbanz, not a cynic, the writing is so similar the three different vehicles in the video all have the same phone number on them, the young guy they interviewed was from a tyre shop and couldn't see a problem as they just tidy up the cars and park them there when they want to sell them, sounds like an unregistered dealer to me, no wonder the indians are revolting

tamarillo, Sep 2, 3:03am
Because the dealer is conducting business.
I see them as different things.
But I agree that unregistered dealers should be clamped down on.
Maybe dealer should be lodging complaint about that instead and have it checked. . At present he is barking up wrong tree.

tamarillo, Sep 2, 3:07am
if you can't see the joke in Cowboys and Indians reference you need a chill pill.

serf407, Sep 2, 3:09am
Who do you guess they cheer for when a certain cricket team is playing the black caps?

My tort would be to display a car with 'for sale' advertising - the person responsible for the car on the side of the road (public space) should be considered a 'mobile trader' and therefore subject to the rules/ regs that are appropriate to mobile traders - e.g having mobile traders' licences.
https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/licences-regulations/business-licences/mobile-traders/Pages/default.aspx

Therefore it is an Auckland Council issue rather than an Auckland Transport issue. Make a bylaw - the vechiles are parked up places like hill road, manurewa too.

The road sellers are taking a fair risk with the meth impaired drivers likely to crash into a vehicle parked on the side of the road at some point of time.

mojo49, Sep 2, 3:10am
A smart Indian would take pics of the 3 cars with the same phone numbers and send them info the IRD and Vehicle dealers crowd. The young fella would soon be parking his pushbike at work having sold all his cars to pay his tax arrears. I had a chat to another young fella recently who talked to me about having bought and sold 5 cars so far this year making good $ on each one.

If there was a "Thread title of the year"
This would be it.

andrewcg53, Sep 2, 8:00pm
I would be P'ed off too if I was selling cars but I would let the air out of their tyres and maybe add a few scratches to the paint work

vtecintegra, Sep 2, 8:23pm
So depending on how the owner decided to retaliate you'd get either
a/ A willful damage charge
b/ The stock on your yard trashed

gedo1, Sep 2, 8:41pm
Hmmm! I wonder at the logic of the Auckland Transport spokesperson. Leaving aside the legality of vehicles being parked for sale annoying the licensed dealers. did he recognise the problem caused by would be buyers etc stopping to look at these vehicles? Walking around them in the roadway and so on - let alone where they would park correctly.

amasser, Sep 2, 9:18pm
Good idea!

morrisjvan, Oct 7, 1:49am
Because if the thread title was 'Car dealers complain about unlicensed sellers' it just wouldn't be funny.
