My 2011 Outback just developed a clicking sound behind the dash. Almost behind the CD player. It sounds like a mix of a switch trying to turn on and off, and a CD stacker changing CDs. Its just been serviced with the coolant changed so was even thinking it could be some air in the heater core. It's a 3,6 so don't think its a head gasket, no loss of coolant or anything.
The noise only happens when the engine is turned on, acceleration doesn't make it worse. AC works fine although there isn't as much flow to the feet in the foot setting (which is common in these cars). Sound still appears with CD in the system
Not sure if its a big deal- can live with the noise as its really faint especially with the AC on but also don't want to ignore if it is something major!
Thanks Rob

I think it is probably something to do with the heatyer/air con system. A flap control motor perhaps. Anyway can you pull out the fuses for the sound system and see if the noise stops. If so then its in the sounds if not then probably the heater.

'Throttle body allignment' doing its thing?
If the battery's been disconnected the computer may reset itself and for a while afterwards it 'learns' your driving and changes itself to suit.
What sort of car is it?
Not a leaf stuck in the vent?

yea agree it could just be a leaf, try speed the ac fan up and see if it gets faster, if it does then the fen needs to be opened and cleaned, not a hard job on most cars

Cabin filters are expensive and last about 10,000-15,000kms. Its something that's overlooked a lot. I'm having to buy two at the moment, along with oil filter/air filter/oil/safety belt.
Supacheeps $45 for the ryco brand and Trademe has a Aussie company selling them for $18 + $15 p&p. Or as a bulk deal, all the filters and anything else for the same postage. Works out that you get a free filter in the end.

I had a Toyota with clicking noise in the dash which was due to an A/C air mixing vent servo gone faulty. Pain in the but to access, but easy fix just clean contacts and bend a bit to make better contact.
As supernova2 said, try to isolate the problem first. So pull out fuse for sound system and see if that helps, then next the AC system. Look up online whats the best way to do this. I am not familiar with Mitsubishi so cant be of much specific help.
