Tried to accelerate, no power what so ever. Reversing was fine. All the lights on the dash were flashing. Turned off, and then worked?

voltage drop problem. i recall that bmw bob guy said something about a specific place of problems . your symptom description matches a power supply problem there be many many fault codes now if you put a bmw scanner on it all set by the flashing voltage dropout .

yes as above you need to get the codes read. Go from there.
