Should I worry

stbossman, Aug 8, 3:23am
I left a deposit on Sunday at a car dealr to buy a 2016 ford ecospot

it is an ex lease car with under 30k on the clock they were getting a new

warrant today and it failed on the shocks,it is stiill covered by the original

warranty and they will have it fixed, should I worry as to why they have failed and ask for another car

tony9, Aug 8, 3:32am
What were the terms of the deposit? Does it allow you to change the car for any reason?

Defective shocks alone, that are being replaced with new ones, hardly constitutes evidence that the car is not fit for purpose.

stbossman, Aug 8, 3:36am
thans for that but I was wondering why the shocks would need replacing
at such a low milage

Reps car on mainly shingle roads typical Ford " fix or repair daily " !

Does seem odd. Who did the WOF? Exactly why did they fail? Leaking? Bent? Seized? Broken? Or just a p'eed off inspector?
I think I'd be getting someone who knows what they are doing to have a good look for frontal damage.

supernova2, Aug 8, 3:46am
Reps car would have done a lot more than 30,000km I would think, unless it's been running without the speedo.
2 years a bit short for ex-lease as well is it not?
Being ex-lease should have all the service records. Eveything look ok in them?

stevo2, Aug 8, 3:52am
Front or rear shocks?
Does it have a towbar?

slarty45, Aug 8, 3:52am
Morbidly obese driver who does not slow down for speed bumps
Best check the seat for methane blasts

kazbanz, Aug 8, 4:45am
What does the comprehensive pre purchase inspection tell you?
that's the way to find out if its an abused car or just "one of those things"

comsolve, Aug 8, 4:52am
Give it a miss. I have a Nissan with similar kms and the shocks are like new.

xs1100, Aug 8, 4:54am
Shocks do have a limited life used to be reccomended replacement at 40 ks

thejazzpianoma, Aug 8, 5:16am
I wouldn't worry at all about the shocks, what would concern me with that car is the powershift transmission (pretty sure those had it until 2017 so worth checking). That is an expensive nightmare of a transmission and was dropped quickly on the ecosport due to class action lawsuits and widespread failures.

My concern if this is an ex lease vehicle that has had hard enough use to wear it's shocks out that the transmission may have had a good workout as well. The problem is bad enough that if it was me I would bail out if it's possible to do so at this point. If you decide to keep the vehicle remember if you have trouble outside of warranty you can likely still insist Ford or the Dealer pays as the transmission often breaks early enough to be considered unfit for purpose. Just be prepared to dig your toes in as it is pretty much standard practice in NZ for dealers to try and wriggle out of their CGA requirements.

Best of luck with it.

my 2017's shocks had to be replaced before 10,000KM, Ford did it under warranty as there was no reason for them to fail. Shame they can't replace the powershift because they surely can't fix it. Seriously stbossman if you put a deposit on a Ford with a powershift transmission you would do well to let them keep the deposit & get out of the contract.

supernova2, Aug 8, 9:53am
Oh sorry just assumed it was front shocks but now see it wasn't specified. Amend my thoughts to say get it checked everywhere for signs of damage.
I see another poster says his shocks were changed at 10,000. Couple that with the powershift and you have to wonder just how badly made are modern Fords?

Hi'' tell them you now want an AA Report'' they cannot reject you asking 'you will have to pay for it about 120.00'also you can aske for your deposit back 'they can only charge you a minimum 'for paperwork . = maybe 80=100 dollars ' if they wont get aa report forget it '''shocks gone =what else ?Iused to sell cars a few years ago in chch 'They cannot hold all your deposit 'GET THE AA REPORT 'All the best 'my Friend.

neil237, Aug 8, 1:05pm
YES 30.000 KS & SHOCKS GONE ? NOWAY 'GET YOUR DEPOSIT BACK ' NORTH OR SOUTH ISLAND & WHO WAS THE DEALER?

desmodave, Aug 8, 11:21pm
Any1 with real world experience dealing with suspension in Christchurch ? would think there would be a lot of accelerated wear on suspension components with the amount of road works over so may years . . Be interesting to know what the fault was with the shocks to be failed .

kazbanz, Aug 9, 12:09am
Actually you make a REALLY good point.
I'd be interested to see the extent of the acceleration ofwear on all underbody components of vehicles exposed to the affects of poor roads and liquefaction (the ooze itself on the underbody) --There has to be some fallout.

shortee2, Aug 9, 2:31am
An AA Report, isn't worth the paper its written on. Seriously!

Nah, that was the BMW that sent baby into a sub orbital trajectory

skull, Nov 1, 6:52pm
Incorrect, the baby was "slammed" into sub orbital trajectory.
