1. Ban wheel clamping out right. It's extortion and a form of blackmail. 2. Make third party insurance compulsory - NZ is the laughing stock of the western world right now regarding this. 3. Make ALL quoted and advertised prices in NZ GST inclusive. This 'plus gst' nonsense in small letters written underneath, or mumbled to you under someone's breath is simply not good enough and can be misleading.
Feel free to add your own.

* Penalties for those caught out trying to get out of their obligations under the CGA
* Instant dismissal with no pension and prosecution for Police caught perjuring themselves.
* Compulsory psychological screening for Police and 111 operators.
* A fair trading act type law for government departments so their communications cannot be deliberately misleading.
* Roll back health and safety laws to about the level of the mid 90's.
* Make it compulsory for state highways to have 100km/h limits and be maintained to that standard unless there is an existing Gorge or other historical obstacle to that.
* Re introduce road Policing guidelines to as they were in the 90's (no policing recently changed speed limits, no radaring in the midddle of passing lanes etc).
* Roll back the drink driving law changes
*Instil a safety-focused publically advertised mission statement for Police and measure their performance along those lines.
* Pass in to law that land rates can only increase by the level of inflation unless in times of disaster, after which they must be returned to previous levels.
* Look in to changing MMP for a weighted voting system to avoid Winston style stupidity.
I could go on for hours, so much needs changing. Sorry not all of these are motoring related.

Increase the testing of overseas people for NZ licences and make people resit every 10 years a practical test and every 5 redo the roadcode . Make the tests a lot harder .

Remove all laws and replace with "Be careful and considerate".
Judge or juries to decide if you broke that law and what the penalty should be.

Law that allows for discretion regarding speed limits and ticketing of drivers when passing on the open road, to allow you to pass as quickly as possible and get back onto the correct side of the road.
This current business sees many people hung out to dry as they sit on 100 on the wrong side trying to pass a vehicle doing 90, which is just not safe. Get the boot in and make the pass happen quick smart I say!

Wouldn’t change any. I’d just like the current rules to be enforced with a broken window policy.

Inmates are made to pay for the QE2 hotel stay. All inmates on entering jail are given 10 lashes of the cane to remind them why they are entering . Inmates to be given 10 lashes annually to commemorate the induction. Inmates to be given 10 lashes on their release to rmind them why they were inside in the first place. The above should also apply for those on PD. WINZ beneficiaries should only be given credits not cash to purchase necessities. WINZ beneficiaries without health issues should be put to work cleaning up the community in order to receive credits. Politicians should be made personally liable for their own "Stuff ups" People upon passing away should be required to leave their heirs/ beneficiaries all in debt by $1.00 each. That is Justice!

- zero drink/drug driving limit -(not a change, but actual proper enforcement of existing laws; all traffic rules; red light running, speeding, illegal overtaking, using cellphone etc.) -besides just motorway patrols, have neighborhood patrols to address the point above and also deter crime -some sort of mandatory short training video/test/leaflet or something for tourist drivers especially those coming from countries that drive on the correct side of the road. -mandatory minimum 3rd party vehicle insurance -no multiple taxation on fuel and stuff (i.e. no tax on a tax on a tax)
oh and just have to say:
YES AND learn how to use GOOGLE MAPS. I still can't believe the dispatch person I talked to didn't know where Grafton bridge is !

Execute people too stupid to indicate correctly at roundabouts.
Execute twice the ones who say it 'can't be done on small roundabouts' or it's 'safer to do it their way'.

Make it illegal for Politicians and their immediate families to use anything but the Public Health System, (unless it's a lifesaving emergency situation).
That should sort out the Health System in very short order !

compulsory insurance only guarantees higher costs as providers know you 'have to buy' and it becomes an old boys club. In case you hadn't noticed, an increasing number of kiwis are on struggle st and have no option other than the car to get to and from work, another yearly cost is not what they need. And we are by no means a laughing stock, the same line was trotted out when A] we wouldn't invade Iraq along with Bush & B] when we wouldn't deport Russian diplomats biased on a poisoning attack that turned out to be an own goal by the British. You want a change to insurance law, how about when you need your car repaired, the repairer has to do their bloody job properly, not be beaten down to the lowest quote by the very same insurance providers who are only too happy to take everyone's money, but have a hard time letting go.

All the small print to become large print that is easily understood with no loop holes. All laws are either a Yes or No "not". any maybes or grey areas to be exploited by the legals. Mini skirts to be made compulsory, so that more work can be created for Accident related motor trades.

Anyone caught willfully interfering with someone's else's car gets mandatory 10 years inside, no parole, no privileges and on the day of release gets their hands cut off with a hacksaw. Second offense 20 years followed by a bullet in the head.

Make it compulsory to show and add On Road Charges to all cars advertised and how they are reached not just a Total.
kazbanz,

1) Speed limits adjusted to allow smoother traffic flow--110 for passing lanes. 2)instant licence loss for driving outside of licence limitations. 3) Tougher licence testing requirements. 4)Drunk driving causing death is ALWAYS prosecuted as manslaughter. 5)ALL car dealers to contribute to fidelity fund. 6) All On road costs to be built into all advertised car pricing. 7) learner "licence' to be changed to learner permit.Clearly showing it is only a permit to drive with an instructor of fully licenced driver 8) No written off vehicles to be allowed to be imported except for dismantling purposes.

We already have 100% third party personal insurance, by way of ACC.
In terms of third party property insurance, our rates of third party plus full cover insurance are higher than most countries with compulsory third party insurance.
Just because something is legally compulsory does not mean everyone has it.

'End of life vehicles'. If it's got rust where it would fail a WOF, you have the option of WOF/Rego for 6 months followed by automatic de-registration of plates.
Alcohol in glass bottles cannot be sold chilled. Only Aluminium canned alcohol can be sold chilled.
Compulsory licensed Driver Instructors only. No 'Learner drivers' on the road unless while being taught by a licensed instructor driver. Follow thru with passing a full licensed only with no restrictions to driver. Either you know how to drive, or you don't.
Restrict left hand lane in 'Passing lane area' to 90Km/h. No cars with trailers or trucks/buses allowed in the overtaking lane. Highways to be 3 lane wherever possible, ' one lane each way with alternate overtaking lane as the 3rd lane'
'Recent use drug driving only' It's illegal to drive with 'recent use of drugs'.

Pedestrians must give way to all traffic.Repeat offenders loose license and the the right to own a vehicle forever. Cars crushed after second offence which is the driver is found guilty of.
kindajojo,

If your driving a car drunk, unregistered, unsafe, speeding. basically illegally Third offence car gets crushed. 1 warning 2 penalty 3 three strikes your out. If you take undersize crayfish you can lose your car, boat and gear, if you are driving illegal you get a slap on the hand. crayfish are worth more than human life apparently
. and i dont care if its your parents or friends car. dont lend your car to and idiot. if its stolen, then its a hanging offence.

Why do you want to line the pockets of insurance companies?
snoopy221,
Sep 5, 5:38am
Personally i would set aside at least 27 acres in each island and build a full driver liscense testing facility. I.E. until you can prove basic skid control back a trailer identify and avoid hazards etc. No Liscense And if you arrive on a plane you can NOT drive or book a rental until passing.
socram,
Sep 5, 7:36pm
So the same should then apply to all Kiwis driving overseas? Given that 70% of drivers will never need to back a trailer, why make that part of the test? You might just as well insist that they also have to take a test on a motorbike
But you can arrive by ship and all is OK then?
Phase out overtaking on the left - and prosecute those who don't keep left.
Confiscate the car for three months if rego and Wof are more than 2 months out of date.
Raise the car driving age to 17.
If new immigrants can't even read and understand English, how on earth do they get a full Kiwi driving licence? If they can't even read the theory test without an interpreter, how can they read the advisory road signs such as 'merge like a zip' or the overhead motorway digital messages?
