With the fuel crisis starting to bite and 95 running out at stations, what are the alternatives for motorists who require premium fuel?
Could you run a Direct Injection or turbo car like say a late model TFSI Volkswagen on 91 for a short period of time? What about with Octane Booster fuel additive?

Which TFSI engine to be precise? Twin charged? I think I would at least be adding octane booster. Single turbo one will likely get away with it for a little while but you will no doubt get some carbon buildup. probably not enough to worry it. I would go with Octane booster as the safer alternative, if twin charged I would absolutely not try 91, at least without the booster.

. Just speaking hypothetically really, but let's say a BPY 2.0T turbo engine in a 2006ish Golf GTI.

Those are a bit more tolerant. If it comes to it, yeah I think if it was me I would risk 91 with octane booster for a little while in that. Just make sure the octane booster does not contain ethanol as they are not an ethanol compliant engine.(I don't know what is in those boosters, never run them sorry).
Firstly though, I would top the tank up with 98 along with a couple of mower tins and see how far that gets me.

TEL was the O/B of choice for probably 60 years. but the do gooders and cats ruined that avenue
I bet 91 is fine, . just keep the throttle load to 30 - 40% WOT . the engine management system will cope, by retarding ignition and adding more fuel if it thinks it's necessary
best O/B now would be methyl then ethyl alcohol or toluene
