Don't wash in warm/hot water. I find a squirt of sunlight dish wash and some laundry powder is as good as anything else out there.

Or you can use sugar, rips the grease off but does dry the skin. Dish soap has heaps of salt to thicken it. Rusts cars well too.

Actually think that is similar to a product called Lan-O soft that used to be one of the VERY best for combating dermatitis back yonks ago sadly google ain't my friend in finding that.

I use this stuff http://www.reinol.co.nz/reinol-original/

you only need about the same amount as toothpaste you put on your toothbrush. massage it on wet hands and it gets all the grime out your fingerprints. Was about $25 for a 500g tub, and if you arent wasteful then it goes a very long way. It doesn't dry out your hands.

I used to use JIF, which worked OK but dried your hands out a bit, and didnt work as well as the Reinol.

Wurth make a good one which is similar too.

I recommend this barrier cream. Stinks a bit but it's food safe so I use it as a barrier before work and then as moisturiser after cleanup.

Sometimes hard to find but a mate from a dairy farm gave me some years ago. Farm supply coys, chemists etc - someone will have it but apparently, so a friend said, you cant get it in New Plymouth. It truly is brilliant. Apparently they even use it in hospitals for people with chemo related exema.
For clean up I've been using a Wurth product but that's only as I was given it when a panel shop closed. Its blardy expensive!

I use Stoko Solopol, absolutely the bees knees. Has walnut she'll in it to scrub, doesn't dry your hands and isn't smelly. Also a little goes a long way, bought a starter kit for my home garage about 4 years ago and I'm probably only a quarter of the way through it.

I use a Palmolive Coconut hand cleaner product from the Warehouse or P&S.
$4 a litre when its on special. Cheap & better than anything else I have used.

Dishwasher & laundry powders good for 3 washes & then your hands go dry & crack. We used Castrol klix in the workshop, not as good as the Palmolive.p

Of all the cleaners I've used the Reinol is the best IMO, long since given up on (laugh at the generalisation if you want) anything that's either green, yellow or orange, got coarse abrasives in it and is liquid enough to be poured out of a container. its usually solvent laden=>that's what's drying your hands out. The Wurth cleaner is a quality alternative and like the Reinol has the right level of abrasiveness. Have used that Stoko stuff in the past and wouldn't use it in preference to the other two and certainly not Castrol Klix either.

I always use rubber gloves nowadays & pass that cost on! and if I did use a hand cleaner it has always been inexpensive dish washing liquid for degreasing.

My mechanic ex taught me this. Works a treat too. Pour some cooking oil on hands add a small amount of washing powder, rub as if soaping and rinse with cool water. The one oil seems to lift out the other, cheap as chips and it stops your hands drying out too much.

I've been using the width product for 2 years. Great stuff

Swarfega is still available. Oldskool hand cleaner.

intrade, Jul 5, 8:22am
i use dish wash detergent . rub it on pure Do not wet hands and all the oil and grease drops off your hands then when disolfed wash off with warm water . Other then that i got a 5 liter scrubber type soap from europe i got since 25 or more years For if it wont come off . or if i accidently wet the hands first-
The dishwash wont work if you wet the hand and then pour it on.
What to use for e dispenser . A catchup twist top pottle. and just buy the cheapest stuff Dont use the crap for dishwashing.
My mate uses it for hands and dishwashing . The cheap crap is waterd down and dont really cleans the dishes but perfect for the hands .

Few problems with that that i personally had.
Number The gloves tear holes.
number 2 they dont give me the feel i want in tight corners when only my brain and my hand are doing the job . and i talk about automotive not pornos.
So what do i do. i try to not work on $hite cars that are dirty like hell. because lets face it if the engine looks like a grease ball you already know the guy is a cheapskate when you open the bonnet.
places you cant avoid grease is CV joints to name one where you do get grease on you.
and then i sweat in them gloves.
So yea i dont know about gloves .
What ones "gloves" do you buy ?

dublo, Jul 5, 9:28am
If you wear a pair of gloves for very long the interior and your sweaty skin become a perfect culture medium for the bacteria already living on your skin to rapidly multiply. Wash your hands thoroughly after taking them off and before handling anything (or anyone !)

I think this is the stuff I use. I get it on special @ $4 for a litre @ P&S or the Warehouse.

https://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=501522

It works well and moisturises the hands and leaves them smelling nice.
I've used it to clean grease & dirt off engine parts & it worked good for that too. That's a good indication that it works.

I got to hating the smell of swarfega & Klix. It never cleaned real deep & I always needed a 2nd clean later on after sweat had pushed dirt out of the pores.
