Our old ute failed the WOF in ended up in a panel shop for about 5 weeks which means the recheck period has expired. this is due to hold up for parts .If the vehicle has not increased it distance traveled I don't see how owners should have to do another full inspection and pay the cost.I walked out .not going to pay.VTNZ get paid twice .No way I don't buy into it.

You have a right to be annoyed but be a little careful of cutting off your nose despite your face!

cattleshed, Nov 18, 6:22am
"Cutting off the nose to spite the face" is the message.

sr2, Nov 18, 6:24am
You're right.

sandypheet, Nov 18, 6:27am
28 days for recheck is a Land Transport rule not the inspecting organization. Annoying, yes, but regardless you are still going to have to pay again somewhere.

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 6:35am
No parked it up for 6 months. This 28 day thing not going to work .They expect me to sit a queue for an hour do another full check no extra ks on speedo due circumstances beyond the owners control. This can be changed.

sandypheet, Nov 18, 6:36am
Good luck. Thought it was in a panel beaters for 5 weeks.

m16d, Nov 18, 6:43am
If it's been in the panel shop for 5 weeks getting the rust fixed from a lifetime of working in cow crap, you really need to pension it off and get a new one.
You dairy farmers are rolling in money, every thing you buy is tax deductible you know.

trade4us2, Nov 18, 6:50am
I never go to VTNZ now. They have been hopeless so many times.

s_nz, Nov 18, 7:02am
It can be changed, but would requre a change to the Land Transport (Certification and Other Fees) Regulations 2014.

Personally I think the 28 days is fairly reasonable. Can't expect WOF inspection agencies to keep the liability of free rechecks on their books for an extended period.

Also if the time period from the first check gets up, the risk of new age related defects increases, so having a fresh inspection, and fresh 1 year / 6 month WOF issues seems like a good idea.

Finally the cost of a WOF is fairly reasonable in general. If waiting in a queue is an issue arrange to have the WOF done somewhere that takes bookings, or have the panel beaters arrange for a WOF inspection to be done.

It would probably have been worthwhile to do your own check before taking it in for a warrant, that's what I do, and I dont get nasty surprises.
You can moan about it all you like, but the rules arent going to be changed to suit you.

Suck it up and learn from the experience.

franc123, Nov 18, 7:53am
You'll get into trouble for suggesting common sense on these boards. EVERYTHING is always someone elses fault you know!

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 7:54am
I think thanks to the virus parts can 6 months to get here so this 28 day requirement is to be a pain for too many people. It means maybe thousands of vehicles of all types get a full check clogging the system up for .what ? . If a new vehicle can get a three year WOF then 28days is a bit tight for something off the road for a few days.

intrade, Nov 18, 7:55am
well the sheets states 28 days recheck its for once not the vtnz fault that they take longer to repair it.

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 8:10am
the weight of numbers involved will see a change .If a vehicle can have 3 year WOF get thrashed every day it a bit much to expect something to be repaired in 28 days now.

intrade, Nov 18, 8:26am
its not 28 days now its always been 28 days unless you got alshheimers.

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 8:40am
No WOF requirement in Australia I understand . all our stations can be closed down ,we don't need them.I had a gutsful of it today.

skiff1, Nov 18, 8:40am
he almost certainly does.

skiff1, Nov 18, 8:43am
I can only imagine the state of the vehicles you would drive if there were no requirement for a WOF.

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 8:48am
My brother lives over there and he has not heard anything about wrecks on the road

kazbanz, Nov 18, 9:00am
actually l quite like the system in those Aussie states. No tests but big fines if the cops catch you with a defective vehicle

itsafamilything, Nov 18, 9:02am
You have bought into it. Saying you have not is not true. The moment you purchase a vehicle in NZ you have bought into it. It is what it is. You knew the system. It has not suddenly changed. You are going about things the wrong way. Go and get your WOF sorted out or stay off the road but do not complain on this forum about this issue. By all means with the right attitude bring your case to the authorities but you have to expect VTNZ to abide by the rules or do you think they should not charge you the second time round?

gpg58, Nov 18, 9:03am
Having driven a few friends vehicle's in aussie, i support "our WOF" system.

socram, Nov 18, 9:05am
Tough. But these are tough times. But unless you and everyone else is prepared to go over their vehicle with a fine toothcomb and keep it up to scratch, then a regular check is fine by me.

My project car has only done 800kms - in 5 years, but failed the last WoF as a rear spring bush had collapsed. Would I have found it? No way.

When a hefty % of the cars on the road seem to have substandard tyres, checkable by most people easily enough, there is every reason why we need a test.

If your old ute needed that much work doing, only found out at WoF time, then obviously you weren't keeping it up to scratch anyway.

sadmuddle, Nov 18, 9:17am
If you get the car serviced in a garage they can check it out fix it, all done. drive off.
