TLDR:
More than 50% of monthly vehicle sales in New Zealand need to be electric by 2030 in order to meet our emissions reductions targets, = annual sales of 150,000 electric vehicles

Not just EVs, need to reduce car use overall

Currently 28k EVs, 3.3M light vehicles

If all light vehicles were electric electricity demand would increase by 20%. Current grid could accommodate it if charged offpeak.

Environmental benefits: 60% reduction in CO2 across lifecycle, no significant difference in resource depletion

Batteries: Battery tech and supply chain rapidly improving. NZ Motor Industry association committed to battery recycling code of practice, EECA and government working on recycling solutions.

What no one has yet answered is the fact that Flora needs CO2 to live/grow and reproduce they in turn allow the produce O2 for Fauna to live/grow and reproduce. Cut the CO2 and the Flora suffers when the Flora suffers or dies the Fauna follow suit. I personally wish that the Planet is left alone to deal with whatever crisis occurs. our Planet in it's 4.5B years of existence has obviously survived catastrophic episodes that mankind couldn't comprehend and has never experienced. It's only been since Mankind all of a sudden "Got" super intelligent over the last 50 odd years that Mankind thinks the Planet needs saving from itself. My analogy is, like farting somewhere on your property and then thinking that the temperature is going to spiral out of control and alter the climate in your neighbour hood.

No, no, the problem isn't mankind in general it's the Politicians, (who think they know better than the entire populations of their respective countries). THAT's where the problems lie. You're correct. The Planet will sort itself out - perhaps to Humanities disadvantage or demise even but it'll soldier on far past this little blip.

tell someone who cares, From where I sit, nothing has changed in 60 years, its cold in the winter and hot in the summer, My fruit trees still produce fruit, the garden is full of food, I remember the heat waves in Christchurch in the sixties and no one thought it was the end of the world. The one thing that is going to bring this country down is this green BS, this country needs productivity, manufacturing and farming and this CC BS on the back burner.

New Zealand can do its best, but as we do China is building 140 more coal fire power plants. If all other countries would focus on China which is about 50% of the pollution this would be better than trying to fix our 1%

I am waiting for someone to tell me why CO2 is bad for me.

The Greens have said so, and Greta agrees. Nough said.
