I'm not sure about that, Just make sure it hasn't slogged out where the pump gear spins in in the housing. I know the oil pump housings are still available for the twin can engines, but not sure if there is any difference to the single cam. You cant get the straight cut gears anymore for them, only helical. Straight cut was considered better.

Morrisman.would you happen to know roughly what the oil pressure should be, say hot motor at idling? Im not sure, but the oil switch seems to be around 10psi? Im wondering too, as I believe the twin cam head will bolt straight on to the single cam block, which may indicate later twin cam front plates will also fit? This is later model stuff I know, but Hyundai used Mitsi 4g63 engines. See here.

I'm also surprised given those kms - I would probably bore it + 20/0.5mm over as a matter of course since going to trouble of rebuilding it.

Twin cam head will bolt on, but you need the twin cam timing belt bits too as the belt is wider.

Quick update.
Seems #4 cylinder has water damage, so the block will be rebored 1mm over. The new pistons I supplied were weirdo low compression turbo things apparently , so need to buy different pistons anyway. The crank is good within service limits so can be reused as is. Also bought a brand new cylinder head, so this car will go another 400000kms or until metal fatigue takes out the body welds, or life fatigue takes out the owner.

Update, I put the new engine in yesterday, she is smooth and quiet as a mouse. All up $2600. Initially got the primary balance shaft 180 deg out making it a tad buzzy first start, but retiming fixed that issue real quick. Now to fix the heater blower, I think its brushes, looks to be a real shitty job to get that out.

Good result, but maybe you could have put a turbo on to match the turbo pistons? You can use the FWD turbo manifold, just turn it upside down.

Given the new 80km speed limits, and 30 kms in town, yes, even here on the coast, I need a turbo for sure .My naturally aspirated 110 HP is really not enough.

LMAO the 400,000km gearbox and diff woould have really appreciated a turbo conversion.

Gosh that's great mileage out of the original engine.I've also got a 1982 Sigma 1600cc.It has 309,000 km and apart from a head gasket around 240,000 km its still original. Yours isn't yellow by any chance? There was one that's been on these message threads before with around 400,000 km.
